MD5 Fingerprint vs Certificate Fingerprint (SHA1)

I've gone through the process of getting (2) API Keys (Release & Debug) with the help of some great tutorials (tutorial #28 & 31) by Cornboyz. With that said, I still get a gray grid with locator pins for my google maps and nothing else (also, I have followed David's video to the T). So, after 3 days of working through this crazy process, I'm begining to wonder if the Certificate fingerprint (SHA1) may be at the ROOT of my problem? Evidently, the Java JDK1.7.0 gives a SHA1 fingerprint instead of a MD5 fingerprint... COULD this be what's causing the gray grid ~ lack-of-map problems for the universe? Please advise, please HELP! ============== Also, once I get this figured out & after updating the .apk, can anyone tell me how to upload a revised .apk file in the Google Android market? For some reason, when an update is attempted, the retorted message states, new .apk (1) already exist ...What's up with that?

I'm sorry, but I'm lost. How do I find the Keytool? My optimal goal is to find the MD5 Fingerprint so I can move forward with the Google Maps API Keys. The above mentioned link just says go to the keytool, but I don't know what that means. Thanks,

Is it absolutely necessary that I have Google Maps? I don't remember that being a part of the first app I built.???

Well, I finally found the pdf that explains the google maps API which has imbedded in it the directions for the md5 fingerprint. Cool.
