Apps crash on my iPhone 3GS

Hello. I'm new to this forum and to Buzztouch in general. I'm very attracted to the concept of being able to create the building blocks for apps on-line and then generate and download the source code and I've toured around and seen what people are up to and it looks great. However, when I've tried downloading a few Buzztouch created apps from the iTunes App store to my iPhone, about 4 so far, I can't get any of them to work! The 2 I've got on there at the moment are Top10LV (which looks to be just the sort of app I want to create for my home city) and Jim on Light. I've got them installed OK but when I launch them I just get a black screen for a few seconds and then back to the icons page. Same for the others I tried. I don't think there's anything wrong with my iPhone. It runs loads of apps perfectly fine. In fact I don't think I've ever downloaded anything from the App store before that has failed to launch in this way. Its an iPhone 3GS on version 4.0.2 of the software and its never been jailbroken or had any faults that I know of. I've tried these apps with Wifi switched on and off and running on 3G. Memory is at 56% and Storage is at 67%. I'm UK based. Am I missing something blindingly obvious here? Are there particular iPhone models or versions of the OS for which Buzztouch apps won't work? I am so looking forward to getting started to build stuff and want to avoid hours of work coding if I can but obviously if I can't run the resulting apps on my own iPhone I'm a little bit nervous about going down this route. Thanks Martin

Hi Martin..welcome aboard. This is a troubling message ;-) Of course the quality of the apps you run into varies widely but they should work regardless of how 'good' or 'bad' they are. There are lots of ways to set things up when making apps and most of them do rely on an internet connection. Could it be something as simple as your phone not having an internet connection? Not sure really. There are so many thousands of these 'out there' that I'm wondering if it's something simple like that. At minimum, you're doing a favor for the app owners, I'm sure they'll want to know your having trouble. I just downloaded Top10LV and Jim On Light to three devices. iPad, iPod and iPhone 3GS (my iPhone 4 is at work)....all worked. All did require an internet connection but all loaded fine.

David, Thanks for the quick reponse. I kind of thought that they would probably require internet connection so I did try them with and without Wifi on and with and without 3G on and nothing worked. I know the internet connection was good at the time I first tried them because I'd only just downloaded them from the App store over Wifi! There isn't anything country specific about the code that Buzztouch generates is there? I know there are some apps I've seen that are available in the US but not in the UK and I don't know how that works and whether code needs to be tweaked in some way before it can be released in the UK. Can you suggest a Buzztouch created app that is available on the Appstore that doesn't require an internet connection at all and I'll try that out?

Glad to help...we don't really have a way to know if an particular app requires an internet connection or not (really, we don't). I think the best thing would be to either: a) Use this URL to see a list of posts from folks that 'went live' (Just searched 'live' in the forum); http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/index.php?searchInput=live b) Scroll the super-long (use the show more button) list of apps on the buzztouch facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/buzztouch/195311247494

I've downloaded Ed Tech Crew and that works fine and accesses the internet with no problem. Still can't get TOP10LV to work though.

Problem sorted. I loaded the latest IOS to my phone 4.3.5. I was on 4.0.2 when some BT developed apps worked and some didn't. Now all looks good.
