Client will update app content

Hi My client needs to be able to update content on the iphone app. What is the best way to do this? I am in the process of building the app. After it is published my client will continue to do the content updates. What is the best way to do this? Has anyone done this? Thanks M

Seeing as this a client you are talking about, you probably don't want to give them access to your control panel. With that in mind I would look into using custom URLs/links to files hosted online. This way your client can update the data on a server, dropbox, etc. and the app will always look to that location for the data to create it's screens. It's pretty easy to do. Check the Documentation first, reply here afterward if you need some more information. Else, you can have the client send you the changes and you can update the app yourself.

Hi Parker Thank you for the prompt reply to my question. I have read the documentation about the Custom URL/Website, but in my particular scenario I am not sure how the client could update the information. This is what I have: a home screen [a menu list] that has 6 or 7 items that must be updated every week. Each of these items lead to another menu list that has 4 items in it, which at the same time, lead you to other sub screens. I am not sure that the home page and the secondary screen can be updated from a web page, or am I wrong? Thanks a lot M.

You would be supplying the screen with a Data URL. It's different than a Custom URL. The file located at the data URL would supply the apps Menu list with JSON data that would then create all of the menu items and sub-menu. In your case, it would be the responsibility of the client to understand how to make the necessary adjustments to the file at that Data URL location. See: http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/mergeFields.php The other option is buzztouch Server: http://www.buzztouch.com/BT-server/ Where we could provide you with a customized (your branding) control panel which you could then in turn provide access to for your client. At that point your client can update their app in a similar manner to how buzztouch users do today. Please use the Contact Us link on that page for further inquiries about buzztouch Server.

Good discussion here. Is it a bad idea to... a) Help the client (or do it for them) create their own buzztouch login b) Login as them and build, create, configure their app c) Downoad the source, and submit to market d) Teach them how to update as time goes on... This may or may not be a good solution depending on your relationship with this client but lots and lots of folks do it this way. My two cents.

Yup, three's better than none ;-) We hope to offer a FREE version of buzztouch Server for download. This download is a .PHP web-app (similiar to WordPress) that you'll be able to install on your website. With this option you'll be able to run your own implementation so your end users can log into your website to manage content. This approach was designed specifically for folks that want to create a business around making apps for folks and do not want to send them to the FREE buzztouch.com site. Not sure when this will be released but it's for sure coming.

Thanks David. That sounds like a terrific solution. Let's say we are using the BT server, is it a good idea to have a customer update the content? Is there a way to restrict access to the creation of screens for example, or they will be able to access the same stuff that we currently see in the free BT.com. Isn't it better to setup an alternate location on a Web site where they can update the content ? Thanks M.

Installing buzztouch Server on your own site allows you to use an alternate location. The release does allow you to create and manage users so you can manage a list of clients and customers and allow them to manage only their apps.

@snazzy - It will be one of our primary focuses after the release of v1.5 for Android, which should be very soon here. We don't set exact release dates for anything, because we want to ensure that we release quality software. It'll be ready when it's ready. Kinda frustrating, I know, but please know that we want this stuff out and in your hands just as much as you do.

I am very interested in the buzztouch server and I am hoping it has an API similar to wordpress that will allow us to add custom plugins etc. This is exciting...cant wait.
