maximum app file size...iOS

Hey Guys, Im developing a video based tutorial application, I want the app to ship with the videos. however the smallest I can get them, and keep good quality, means my app is going to be around 250-300mb this is obviously pretty big... question is, is it too big?

In a word, yes. You'll have to make it wifi only. First time I downloaded TomTom app it was close to a gig I think.

No way you could do this and get people to download it.. Its just too much space on a phone even now.. a days, I recomend you get a small hosting plan with someone for a good low rate.. (check review make sure there bandwidth is quality) then stream the videos. If you produce a huge file that has to be downloaded I promise it will not get downloaded as much as you would like

You can make it as big as you like, it *may* limit your sales however.

Most people are on a 3g plan, fastest 3g is aprox 1.3 mb per second dl and 4g is up to 7.5 mb so they wouldnt mind asmuch, Now if you do the math, Streaming a video on 3g with a good host will be flawless. It will load faster than playing, Think of an app that is a gig at 1 mb per second download.. You would really have to want that app, Having a trial version would be pointless and you would have to market this app very well. (maybe you already have a good base for this IE a website) then you will be ok. But if you starting from scratch this will be hard to market to the masses. Just my personal opinion :-D like cteselle said you can make it as large as you like. But I assume you posted this to get feedback. this is my 2 cents .. ~slater

Remember though guys, Apple will MAKE you make it wireless only, that is the factor you have to remember.

Supply and demand, true story. Adam Smith (Scotsman dare I say) mentioned that.

Folks like us here in Australia, our wifi and 3g streaming rates are REALLY expensive. So I would prefer apps to contain the videos within. Then you can play it over and over without having a internet connection Just my 2c Cheers Terry in Tasmania (where?? heh.)
