The future and buzz touch

Hi all, Just made my first app - love it. My only question is to do with managing and using it without an internet connection. I know we can add and remove things via th control panel on buzz touch but lets say a few years down the line, buzz touch dissapears. What will happen to my app? How can I manage it? Will the app still work? Also, if someone downloads the app and lets say does not have internet or data access at that time (but may need to look at some text etc within the app), can this still be done? Great stuff though guys. Buzz touch is great. I look forward to seeing what new features come in the future.

Don't they give you the code? (just signed up an hour ago). If they give you the coding for it I assume the only way to go about updating it would be to just write and edit the code yourself :-\

They give you the code; which is the structure of the app - but it contacts buzz touch's servers to update (e.g. if you add a menu item).

Hi gang.. Great discussion. v1.5, our latest release was created specifically with the 'future' in mind. You're welcome to disconnect the backend data from our servers if you think it's a better approach. There's a few discussiona about this in the forum (search 'offline' I think). The idea...use the control panel to create your apps configuration data then park it on another website, yours or DropBox or anywhere really. It's not an ideal solution because updates are required manually but it's a great way to remain independent of our backend systems. See the docs for more info abou this, specially the BT_config.txt file and how it works.

The ability to download the source code and upload your app to the App store yourself is definitely a great strength of Buzztouch. Many other non-programming app services not only cost a pretty penny, but they don't offer the option to do that work yourself.

I think it is perfect as it is; not complaining at all. Just always thinking ahead. :)

Just wondering is the backend code going to be availible? Maybe I could put it on my website and use my own site to update it? Could be easily done with drupal if the process was explained

@slater: We do plan to offer a free-download of buzztouch Server like the enterprise offering without support or service (for free). This is in the plan but will likely be awhile. Like you mentioned, you could create your own process to update and host a configuration file. The docs are detailed enough to help a developer create a custom process. Tough...probably. Doable...totally.

Never made a Drupal module. Think I understand the process.....ZERO time with so many other things going on. Maybe you can spear-head something? Shoot us an email with some idea....

applause. Can't be that hard if you know .PHP. Probably super-tough if you don't. Let us know what you find.
