Minimum Specs for Mac?

Hi All I know there have been posts regarding this topic, but searching for 'minimum specs#, or 'xcode requirements' etc turns up nothing - obviously using the wrong keyphrase Anyway, have decided to get up to speed with Mac/iOS SDK/XCode, as I have been concentrating on Android and have been looking at Macs, but have also been offered one for silly low price, but not sure if it has the guts to do the job Specs of machine offered: Apple Mac Power PC G4 1GHz PRO (possibly too slow?) 512Mb (need more RAM?) 80Gb (not a problem as can upgrade if larger needed) So I guess the question, which has probably already been asked a few times but I can't find the posts, is what is the minimum specs/requirements eg, minimum OS, minimum XCode for working with Buzztouch, minimum computer specs for working with iOS SDK? Thanks Steve

That is correct...Xcode will only run on an Intel-based processor. To get in the iPhone app game, I found a Mac Mini on Craigslist which I picked up for $200. Not the fastest box in the world, but does just fine for development! Mine has 2Gb memory, a 50Gb-ish HD, and a single processor.

GoNorthWest's suggestion regarding the Mac Mini is a wonderful idea. You'll be able to hook up your PC monitor, keyboards, mouse, etc., and have a great little Apple OSX-based development machine! Plus, the Mac Mini will be much more powerful than that PowerPC G4 you're being offered. If you buy a used Mac Mini, be sure you're getting an Intel-based one. The first generation of Mac Mini's had PowerPC chips. (They were great machines, too — we still have one that we use as a print server in our office.)

It has worked out very well for me indeed! Very cheap solution. I did upgrade the memory from 1Gb to 2Gb, but other than that, I put nothing into it. I load LogMeIn on the Mac and access it via that way...don't even need a monitor! Very cheap solution to get into the dev game!

The LogMeIn idea is brilliant! You can remain comfortable within your PC setup, yet still be running a Mac. Although I prefer working on Macs myself, I really like your solution!

And to make it even more interesting, I have all my files in DropBox. So, I can work on Buzztouch wherever, download any new source, and it's already on the Mac! I can also work on images on Windows (my preferred system), save them to DropBox, and they're already usable on the Mac! Perfect synchronization solution!

I have zero nerd-status. MacBook Pro glued to the hip - easy. The headless remark got me thinking about my commodore 64

you have the xcode requirement in the Apple Dev web site, going at this link:https://developer.apple.com/xcode/ Once you log in it It says you need snow leopard 10.6 and an Intel based Mac.. actually I just checked out it used to say it till one week ago, but now it speaks just about xcode 4.1 for lion saying thatYou need to have Mac OS X Lion v10.7 or later installed to download Xcode 4.1... anyway for the previous xcode releases 10.6 and inter CPU are ok..
