Just submitted my first app to the app store!

Holy crap! What a process that was. Just a heads up, you have to create a Distribution Profile for your app. this is what screwed me up. The Developer Profile will not work and you'll get an error Application failed codesign verification. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate. (-19011) You have to create the Distribution Profile here: http://developer.apple.com/ios/manage/provisioningprofiles/viewDistributionProfiles.action Then download the profile drag and drop into XCODE, archive, share (to create .ipa) then select the .ipa in the Application Loader, then your good to go. Keep in mind this is after you have gone through iTunes Connect and setup the app and info and screenshots and all that jazz. What I thought could be done in half an hour has taken me 5 hours. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes. I guess it's just a waiting game now. I'm excited to have my first app submitted to the app store. I'll let you know what happens next. All the Best, Matt

Congrats! Exactly: Developer Profile -> puts the app into your iphone/ipad/ipod touch Distribution Profile -> puts the app into Appstore so everybody else can put your app into their devices. BR/Stefan

Holy crap! - too funny. I'll never forget how frustrated I was when I started down the Apple path 3-4 years ago. Holy crap is an understatement. Fist pounding, yelling, sooooo mad at those guys in the early days. But, like the others mentioned, it does get easier and worth it eventually. Like a painful right-of-passage or something ;-) Congrats.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Sorry I haven't been back lately my wife is in Africa and I am keeping our 3 yr old and 1 yr old. Jeez I didn't realize how exhausting it was keeping the kids. My wife is a stay at home mom and I discovered a deep newfound respect for what she does on a daily basis. I'm gonna be submitting to the android store eventually, are there any good resources you guys would suggest that would make my submission process a little smoother? Also, If I have any updates I want to make to the app should I wait until after I hear from Apple or should I go ahead make the changes now? I used V1.5 to design the app, so as you know it recognizes changes and it asks the end user if they want to refresh the app. Just wondering if this would make the approval process take more time if every time the testers open the app it looks different, you know? BTW, Still haven't heard from Apple, any idea how long it's taking these days for a response? Thanks, Matt

@taproot - From what I've heard apple can take anywhere from 3-14 days to approve/reject an app. Don't modify it on your control panel if it is set to check for updates however. Apple will reject it if it prompts them for an update the first time they load it. They want finished apps - they feel it's more professional, etc. But feel free to update away after they approve it. @taprootphoto: Kids / mom at home / tough gig. I can SUPER related to this, kudo's to your travelling wife. FYI: Because you mentioned you may want to help style-some-stuff on the site, and you mentioned that your app is in review with Apple...I hope Apple accepts it so we don't have to worry about your design skills. SOOOOO Kidding!!! Dont' get bummed if you get a rejection for something, it happens all the time no matter how pretty it is. You may end up making some small adjustments until they approve it. Bummer for sure...not impossible. Congrats.

Haha! Thanks David. Just submitted App #2 today. Really excited about this one. Is there a place in the forums where people typically share their approved apps or even allow other Buzztouchers to beta test? P.S. Since there isn't a way to duplicate the RSS styling (Custom Color Scheme), I found an amazing work around. For example I have like 20 different RSS feeds coming into the app and all of them needed to be styled the same (Replacing the generic white background/black text). This became quite a tedious task, there are about 20 different customizations that I did to make the RSS feed look unique (Rounded corners, background colors, font colors, ect.). Then this had to be done on all 20 RSS feeds. Being the lover of automated systems that I am, I went searching and found a way to automate the entire process. Now with the touch of a button I can style all additional RSS feed that I add, AUTOMATICALLY. Plus if I decide to change the color in the future, rather than having to go back through the tedious process of updating them all manually. I just change the setting in my automation and I can update all of my RSS feeds to reflect these changes in a matter of seconds. I want to make a tutorial video to share with the community. What would be the best way to share this with others? Peace. -Matt

Automation - whoo hoo, can't wait to see this. Send your link to info 'at' buzztouch and we'll figure out where to put it on the Help Screen. Stoked.
