Data for this screen has not been downloaded error

Thanks again for Buzztouch. It's Awesome! I'm running into a error with a RSS feed on v1.5. The feed shows up perfectly, but when you tap on a row, a blank screen comes up with this error: Data for this screen has not been downloaded. Please check your internet connection. This is on the simulator and on the iPhone. The RSS feed that I'm using is generated through FeedYes.com. I've also used the site Feedity.com with the same error. I don't get the error with the sample data provided by BT. Any help in figuring this out would be appreciated. My console is the following: 2011-08-09 09:29:20.919 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_rssReader: didSelectRowAtIndexPath 2011-08-09 09:29:20.919 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewControllerManager: handleTapToLoadScreen 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewControllerManager: the parent screen nickname: Football Scores itemId: E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6 itemType: BT_screen_rssReader 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewControllerManager: the menu/button tapped is itemId: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewControllerManager: the screen to load is nickname: itemId: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 itemType: BT_screen_webView 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewControllerManager: initViewControllerForScreen nickname: no nickname? itemId: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 type: BT_screen_webView 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: INIT 2011-08-09 09:29:20.920 fff[8656:13d03] BT_rotatingNavController: pushViewController for screen: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 2011-08-09 09:29:20.921 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: viewDidLoad 2011-08-09 09:29:20.921 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewUtilities: getWebNavBarForScreen with nickname: no nickname? and itemId: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 and type: BT_screen_webView 2011-08-09 09:29:20.922 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: viewWillAppear 2011-08-09 09:29:20.923 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewUtilities: configureBackgroundAndNavBar for screen with nickname: no nickname? and itemId: rss_E4DF418DDB3384EDA5A32E6_0 and type: BT_screen_webView 2011-08-09 09:29:20.923 fff[8656:13d03] BT_fileManager: File does exist in Xcode bundle: blank.png 2011-08-09 09:29:20.923 fff[8656:13d03] BT_background_view: Image for background view exists in Xcode bundle - not downloading. 2011-08-09 09:29:20.923 fff[8656:13d03] BT_background_view: setImage 2011-08-09 09:29:20.923 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: initLoad 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_strings: mergeBTVariablesInString (after merge): http://www.feedyes.com/l.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fillinoishomepage.mobi%2Fwap%2Fsports%2Flocalnews%2Ftext.jsp%3Fsid%3D84%26nid%3D58777630%26cid%3D11290%26scid%3D-1%26ith%3D0%26title%3DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_fileManager: File does not exist in Xcode bundle: l.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fillinoishomepage.mobi%2Fwap%2Fsports%2Flocalnews%2Ftext.jsp%3Fsid%3D84%26nid%3D58777630%26cid%3D11290%26scid%3D-1%26ith%3D0%26title%3DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_fileManager: File does not exist in cached directory: l.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fillinoishomepage.mobi%2Fwap%2Fsports%2Flocalnews%2Ftext.jsp%3Fsid%3D84%26nid%3D58777630%26cid%3D11290%26scid%3D-1%26ith%3D0%26title%3DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: Downloading and caching file at URL: http://www.feedyes.com/l.php?url=http%253A%252F%252Fillinoishomepage.mobi%252Fwap%252Fsports%252Flocalnews%252Ftext.jsp%253Fsid%253D84%2526nid%253D58777630%2526cid%253D11290%2526scid%253D-1%2526ith%253D0%2526title%253DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: showProgress 2011-08-09 09:29:20.924 fff[8656:13d03] BT_viewUtilities: getProgressView 2011-08-09 09:29:20.925 fff[8656:13d03] BT_downloader: INIT 2011-08-09 09:29:20.925 fff[8656:13d03] BT_downloader: downloadFile: http://www.feedyes.com/l.php?url=http%253A%252F%252Fillinoishomepage.mobi%252Fwap%252Fsports%252Flocalnews%252Ftext.jsp%253Fsid%253D84%2526nid%253D58777630%2526cid%253D11290%2526scid%253D-1%2526ith%253D0%2526title%253DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:20.925 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: downloadFileStarted: starting download... 2011-08-09 09:29:21.314 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: downloadFileCompleted: ERROR-1968: URL returned 400 - location not available 2011-08-09 09:29:21.314 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: hideProgress 2011-08-09 09:29:21.314 fff[8656:13d03] BT_fileManager: File does not exist in cached directory: l.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fillinoishomepage.mobi%2Fwap%2Fsports%2Flocalnews%2Ftext.jsp%3Fsid%3D84%26nid%3D58777630%26cid%3D11290%26scid%3D-1%26ith%3D0%26title%3DSports 2011-08-09 09:29:21.315 fff[8656:13d03] BT_screen_webView: download error: There was a problem downloading data from the internet.

Poject just updated. Found an issue with the 08/08/2011 update that broke the Custom URL screens. Should be OK now. Re-download the source for your app, compile > build.

Hi, I also have this problem. I have tried redownloading the source code, then recompiled but still have the issue on 5 screens. I think I was working on these screens when the problem happened on the 8/8/2011. Any ideas on how to fix would be great. App is called InfoOcean. Screens are: SelectOrganiseSelectInfo.png PresentAudienceBGroundHELP.png ReflectEffortBGroundHELP.png ReflectPrideBGroundHELP.png ReflectImproveBGroundHELP.png cheers Tricia

Hi in Brisbane: Are you suggesting that content is not downloading and you're seeing an alert message or are you saying images are not downloading? Images are different. If you've used image names and not image URL's, are you sure you added them to your Xcode project? The images need to exist in Xcode project of iOS will not know where to find them. If you use URL's and not image names it's different because iOS downloads them from the internet. Open Xcode, look in the BT_Images folder..are your images there? If not, drag them into the Xcode project then re-compile..bet it works.

Hi David, Yes this is weird. The background image loads O'K, and yes the png file is in the BT_Images folder. However I get the following message when the background image loads: 'Data for this screen has not been downloaded. Please check your internet connection.' (internet connection etc is all fine). So everything loads successfully, except the above message comes up. I hit O'K and all is good - weird. My app is InfoOcean, Menu-> Choose your information -> Research Organiser I'm nearly finished this first App so very exciting!! cheers Tricia

The 'data for this screen has not been downloaded' has zero to do with a background image and everyting to do with the type of screen you're working with. Because you hit OK and all is good, I would guess that the configuration data in the Xcode project is different than the configuration data on the Server. a) Open Core Settings in contorl panel. b) Click the link to Show Configuration Data (this will open a new window with your app's config data) c) Copy this data to your mouse and paste it in the BT_config.txt file in your app. Overwrite the contents. Rebuild > Re-run. Bet it works. It's important that the data be accurate and working before you submit to Apple. They do not want to have to refresh anyting before the app is OK.

Thanks David, I tried what you suggested, but no luck. I've double checked all the files are named correctly and are in the BT-Images folder. So, the console is showing two different issues. a) It's looking for ReflectPrideBGround.png in the Xcode project and is not finding it. If it's already in the project, something wrong. Maybe remove it (delete) then re-add? Be sure you're adding it to the Xcode project by dragging it intoto the folder in Xcode. It's not enough to simply add it to the directory you donwloaded from your control panel. Drag it over the Xcode interface and 'add existing files' This helps Xcode establish a link to it. b) The HTML page named screenData_E3CA84C0CB20C166C600290.html should be donwloaded from your control panel then cached on the device for offline use. This is also not happening. Not sure why. What screen is this in your InfoOcean app. I can download the source-code to your project and test it with your permission and see what's up. If you want to me to do this, kindly post 'It's OK for the buzztouch team to download my source-code for testing' and I'll have a look.

Hi, that would be great if you don't mind testing it. I've deleted the background images then re-added the way you suggested by to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help. cheers Tricia and; 'It's OK for the buzztouch team to download my source-code for testing

OK... a few things... a) Research Organizer: When I first visited this screen in the Simulator I got the 'data not downloaded' message. I looked at the output console with the app running and saw that it was requesting this URL: http://www.buzztouch.com/applications/EA90AC3B589100CF2395A9B68/customHTML-E3CA84C0CB20C166C600290.html This is the URL to the html/text screen you created. I pasted it in my browser and got a 'page not found' error. This explains why the phone could not download it. It didn't exist! So, I visited the control panel, found the Research Organizer screen. Next, I loaded the screen and clicked SAVE in the control panel. The URL now loads in the browser and the phone. Fixed. Strange behavior for sure, not sure why that happened. Basically, it didn't get created on the backend until Saved was clicked. b) Images: Because I don't have any of the images I'm using the control panel to see what images it's trying to load. Example, I don't have this image: SelectOrganiseSelectInfo.png I made a new image with that name, exactly that name, case-sensitive. I added it to the Xcode project and it worked great. This means there's something about the way you Xcode project is adding the images. Not sure how else to explain it? Drag them over the project and 'add existing items' - worked perfectly. Idea: Because the text on lots of screen is black, and the background is black, you may consider setting a background color to #FFFFFF (white) in the global theme so you can see all the text you're entering ;-) This may not be a problem when you have background images working..not sure what color they are ;-)
