For example square root sign, divisor sign, +, -, degrees - power of 2,3,4, etc. I know I can get subcripts and superscripts but a simple mathematical formula can take up a good size over a page if the notation doesn't flow right. If you're on a PC, you'll probably need to key in ASCII references using your keyboard. You hold the alt-key down and use the keypad to enter the ASCII code. You can google for a list of codes. Hope this is what you were looking for.
