Suggestion for Improvement and Bug: Ordering (v1.5)

Just a quick suggestion for improvement in the interface... I have a screen that is a long list of other screens (67 and counting at the moment). I would like the screen to list the items alphabetically, but as I add new items, it quickly gets out of order. If I use the Order Number (leave blank to add at end) field, it inserts the item at the number I specify, but also leaves the current screen associated with that number, at that number (that's the BUG part). What would really make reording things easier is to have a order alphabetically button, which would reorder all the current screens, or have the ability to click on the Selecting this menu item... column, which would place all entries in alphabetical order, at which point I could renumber them myself (this is the suggestion for IMPROVEMENT). As it stands now, I'll have to list the items somewhere in their correct order, assign a number to it, and then transfer that info to the buzztouch interface. Not a huge deal, but more time consuming that I think it needs to be (computers are pretty good at sorting). Thanks! Mark

I think I understand the idea. The 'add at this position' box was an afterthought and added a week or so back. It does not automagically re-order anyting when you add an item to the middle of the list somewhere. Using this method makes two items have the same order number (as you figured out). This alone does not hurt anything, two numbers can be the same. Ordering alphabetically is not as easy as it sounds. It's complex because the 'title' of the menu item is not saved in the database as an individual item. It's saved as part of a larger blob of JSON text. Because of this, we cannot do an 'ORDER BY' type statement. If you've worked with databases before this will make sense. If you have not, it won't. We'll try to figure out another approach to getting the colum odered alphabetically...it is a good idea ;-)

Hi David, This does indeed make sense. The only reason I thought it was easier to implement is because on the general Manage Screens and Menu page, you can sort alphabetically. No rush on implementing any of this...just a would be nice sorta thing. Thanks! Mark
