User Input

Hi, Is there any way to allow the user to input text or select options from a list that is saved? Basically allowing them to fill out a form? I am trying to created a page where the user can write notes that are saved and they can later access for reference. Or is this too advanced? will I have to code this myself? Thanks, Sam

One way you can achieve this is through the use of a Custom HTML screen. Use a form generator online and add the code to the HTML screen. Have the form on that screen send it's data to a server where the app can access it later. There are lots of tutorials on ow to do this sort of thing out there. Just keep in mind that when returning the data to the device, any buzztouch screen is expecting the data to be in JSON format. Another route would be to dig into your apps source code and add this feature through your (or someone you hire) objective-c programming skills.

Awesome! Thanks a lot for the advice. I think I will check out the html route since I am looking to create this app myself to test its viability. Thanks a again.

Hi Parker, Thank you for the form generator suggestion...had not thought of that. But I wonder how we send some kind of unique identifier to the form so it knows which phone any given entry belongs to. So, when a person looks back at their screen, we can display only the rows of data (or records, or whatever) that they entered from their phone. (Did that question make sense?)

Never mind my prior comment. Just found a nice PHP script provided by David which has examples of embedded app and device id codes. Will work with that for a while. There is so much good stuff here.

Hi Thomas, did you figure anything out? I wonder if we should just provide a link to a we page with the forms on them?

Did you guys check out this: http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/mergeFields.php Wherever you host the html page, be sure you can append/include the merge field data to what is sent out to your database. This will identify the users phone from every other phone that interacts with the database. Then to access this data you can use a custom URL screen that points to a .php file that will search the database for the DeviceID of the users phone, and then format and return his data in JSON format so it forms a proper screen on the device.

Hey Parker, Sounds complicated. I was hoping to be able to do myself. Looks like I'll still need a programmer.
