New Forums

I don't want to complain, instead I'd like to make a suggestion: BuzzTouch needs better forums. Period. The current forums are unorganized. We have topics from different categories right next to each other. I think a professional-grade forum software such as vBulletin or MyBB should be installed. There should be many different sections, including an off-topic section. I believe this is the next step into the future of BuzzTouch. A good community makes a good product.

I agree. From a visitor perspective - someone who's thinking of giving it a go for example - it must be quite daunting to see a long list of (mostly) problems, many repeated in multiple posts on the same page! There are plenty of positive posts, but they're lost. I think a well organised forum would give a truer picture to visitors of how brilliant Buzztouch is.

I am pretty knowledgeable in IPB Forums as I help run one so if you all decide to take the more advanced approach to forums Id be more then willing to dedicate my time to the site.

Thanks for the suggestions and offers of help. We recognize the forum needs to be improved and will be moving in that direction soon. Thanks again for your genuine concern.

@ fusionmtx: We've been digging around through a bunch of open source .PHP powered forums. phpBB seems popular. We have a test running but have lots of work to do reagarding user integration, registration, style, etc. We don't want users to have to register for the service, then register again to use the forum. We also can't seem to find the time to figure out how to get tens of thousands of user-records, along with their avatars, imported into the new forum package. Of course we could figure this out eventually, just tough to get to it with all the other goings on. Your help to offer is super-duper appreciated. At this point I think the best help, to get started, would be: a) What forum softare would you run? PHP backend, mySQL database is our preference and fits nicley with our current setup b) We have a simple user management setup. List of users, each with an ID and image. ID is in database, image is on file system. Do you have any advice about importing this data? c) The ten thousand or so existing comments in this question list (it's far from a forum!) also need to be imported? More advice? Improving the question list and moving it to a legite forum setup is needed and we do need to get this done, any advice would be awesome.

Was about to post a similar suggestion - there's loads of good info on here but it can a bit difficult to find. What would be really useful is a user generated 'tips and tricks' section for kindly souls to post how to guide and code examples to show how to do some of the clever stuff in Eclipse etc. I'm only a beginner in app dev and java so a code library dedicated to manipulating your buzztouch app would be superb rather than having to dig around in multiple threads. Also how about a support group / collective where less experienced users could outsource some parts of their development to other users on a freelance basis? That said - if forums distract time from getting V1.5 working in Android then... move along... nothing to see here!

I guess let me clarify lol, I am in no way experienced with coding. I'm more on forum management and stuff like that. I also am familier with the back end stuff and what not with IPB type boards. I mean i know a couple more forums out there but not sure how you would incorporate the data. The least of my worry would be avatars, as the comments are most valauble. I mean if your able to add dirrerent sections to this forum like instead of it being one long list, break it up like 1.4/1.5 andorid or iOS, what type of issue it is, etc etc. imo that would be alot easier. If you went that route I wouldnt mind helping move stuff. And as @bladeboy said if this takes away from 1.5 andorid then this conversation never took place lol.

David, MyBB works extremely well. The community is absolutely great, and the add ons are priceless. I'd suggest you at least try it. I understand the problems, and are sure that with time the forums will be greatly improved.

There is a search area for these forums, have a question about ads search ads all the post should come up, check if theres already a answer to your question be for posting new topic, if the users helped clean up the forums along with BuzzTouch it would make it a better experience for all...Great Job BuzzTouch best site to create a app around..Thanks for everything

Just a thought to help solve the merge of the info on this forum. Get the new forum (vbulletin, phpbb or whatever) setup and then just keep this forum as an archived info source. Folks looking for old posts could quickly search this board. It won't be long before the posts on this board would become dated and the new forum would have all the relevent info. just a quick .02 cents
