I AM ALMOST THERE BUT I CAN'T GET THE SIMULATOR TO WORK PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

am trying to compile and test my first app, however when I open up Eclipse and I follow the video examples, when I get to the part where I select the Run button, and then select Android Application I get this message, No Compatible Targets were found. Do you wish to add a new Android Virtual Device? When I select yes, it opens the Android SDK and AVD Manager. The problem is that when I try to creat new AVD's it never works....what do I need to do to make it work?

First, thank you so much for responding. I am new to this. Yes I had it set up as Google platform 1.6. When I click Run, I get this message invalid command-line parameter: Files. Hint: use '@foo' to launch a virtual device named 'foo'. please use -help for more information Any help would be very much appreciated!

Can you get the AVD (simulator) to launch at all? You should be able to open the AVD maanger, then launch the simulator you setup with an app running. It will launch to it's home screen. After it's launched, you can then 'run' your Android app using the Run As menu. Work on getting the simulator to lauch first and don't worry about getting your app to run until the sim is running.

No i cannot get the AVD to launch at all. This is why I am asking the question. When I try to launch it, by clicking run, it gives me this error invalid command-line parameter: Files. Hint: use '@foo' to launch a virtual device named 'foo'. please use -help for more information

So i tired everything I could on the Android eclipse. The delete of virtual device and the moving around of the android programs into C: The only thing I noticed that in the android folder itself i saw in the solutions that I dont have a Android/android-sdk so that might be the problem. But i know that I have downloaded that program from the android developer site. any solutions? I have tired this with downloading the source code from my app as well as the way the video shows. this is in regards to the conflict with my eclipse program [2011-07-16 17:58:38 - Emulator] invalid command-line parameter: Files. [2011-07-16 17:58:38 - Emulator] Hint: use '@foo' to launch a virtual device named 'foo'. [2011-07-16 17:58:38 - Emulator] please use -help for more information

There is an easy solution. I had the same issue. Here is what you do. When you run Eclipse, Go to; > Window > then Preferences. Once the preferences window opened, click on Android listed on the left. In the SDK Location box on the right type in the following, C:\PROGRA~1Android\android-sdk if your Android SDK is under C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk or C:\PROGRA~2\Android\android-sdk if your Android SDK is under (x86)Androidandroid-sdk That will solve your problem :)

Is there a way someone can create a video about this issue and the possible ways to fix it?

Where is your Android SDK Installed? What is in the address bar under preferances?

I go to preferences in eclipse, then I click on the android and in the SDK Location box it says: C:Program Files (x86)android-sdk there is a space and everything in it if that matters to this issue That is exactly how it is spelled, whenever I change it, it wont allow it and says: Value must be an existing directory

ok great. Not sure why that one worked and the other one didn't I have the recommended one. It may just be that when you downloaded the first one, it was corrupted. Congrats and good luck!
