Twitter Link NOT working

We have made several apps and have always used a twitter URL link to a specific twitter account to be followed. As of last night we noticed they do not work anymore. The link goes to twitter, we get a black screen with the twitter logo but do NOT get to the specific twitter account to become a follower. Any idea what happened??

Where's the link? Is it HTML? What version of buzztouch? iOS or Android? Twitter made some changes to the way they authorize users from third party apps a bit ago. Since that time, a few reports have come in that the existing Share on Twitter feature does not work anymore. We have not figured out a solution yet (only a few reports of this). The alternative is to use a Custom URL screen that leads to the mobile version of your Twitter stream. Not quite the same but close ;-)

Hi David, I am struggling with this problem too, I have an android app v1.4 I can browse to the page using the native browser on the phone (HTC Desire) but as soon as I try using the app button/screen I get the same as above (black twitter loading screen), it never loads. FYI: I noticed when I use the browser manually it automatically changes the destination http://twitter.com/TWITTERACCOUNT to https://mobile.twitter.com/#!/TWITTERACCOUNT and works fine. I have had a couple of error reports on this app and I think they relate to this problem. Any thoughts as I am already using the custom URL screen. App is on the market here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.v1_4.B015B143147D45FE4000C85B.com Thanks

BTW This is not for the share on twitter or direct tweet function. This is just a URL link to a twitter users stream. So no authorisation should be required. I believe this is the same as the original poster (sorry for the hijack if not).

I have also tried several variations of the URL to see if this is relevant ie. http://twitter.com/TWITTERNAME https://mobile.twitter.com/TWITTERNAME http://www.twitter... etc, etc. All seem to try and load the new twitter mobile site and fail when in the app but all work on the phones native browser.

Hi Guys...I do understand the issue you're describing. Twitter's URL not loading in the built-in-browser. So, not sure yet what could be causing this. I just tested the N & B app (appsolutely's) in the simulator and it does load. I'm travelling for the holiday and don't have any testing Android devices (actual devices) with me so I could not test on an actual device. Can one of you confirm that you CAN or CANNOT get the Twitter URL to load in the simulator. I'm trying to nail-down if it's only happening on the devices. Thx

Hi David, I hadn't thought of the simulator, I'll try it when I get the chance. Thanks

My emulator is running 1.6 and my HTC is 2.2 (this may be a clue) I have a stack trace from a user who has reported an error, no description or message explaing what the error was though. I think it may be related as it mentions Screen_CustomURL, is it worth me sending this through to buzztouch? Does the app launch the phones native browser or is there a browser built in to the app itself? Thanks for the help.

It also worked fine with me in the emulator, but not in the real device.

Can't seem to figure this out (yet). I'm 100% convinced that Twitter is doing some sort of re-direct after reading the User-Agent values from the browser making the request. Has anyone looked at the output Console in Eclipse with the phone connected? Maybe the console shows a message? My testing device is a Motorola Droid running Anroid 1.6. It's older intentionally. It works with any Twitter URL I have tested. If the console will show a clue it would really help try to isolate this. This is the Custom URL screen issue, not the Share on Twitter feature issue.

This is the only output I get from the console. It seems once the app is installed and running on my phone, the console stops logging. Not sure how to gather more data. [2011-08-26 09:24:39 - MyApp] Success! [2011-08-26 09:24:39 - MyApp] Starting activity com.v1_4.BA239D6FC0460E7DA89D19F4.com.Act_Home on device HT12WT212211 [2011-08-26 09:24:39 - MyApp] ActivityManager: Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] cmp=com.v1_4.BA239D6FC0460E7DA89D19F4.com/.Act_Home } The only solution I've come up with is to use the twitter rss feed. But it is not an elegant display at all (at least in 1.4 where you have less control). This is the twitter RSS feed: http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=XXXXXX

I found a solution to this problem. If you use the Twitter mobile link all is good. Example: https://mobile.twitter.com/cigarsmokerapp Good Luck!
