The header images seemed to be limited to the 320 width of the older iOS devices (which looked horrible on the iPhone 4/4th gen iPod), so I opted to use 960x640 images for the backgrounds and bump the info down a bit to fake it. The images I created were PNG with a transparency (so I could display the default stripes), and stored in the BT_Docs directory. I also set Background Image Scale / Position to Full Screen, Preserve Ratio. The drawback of this implementation would be that the background will not scroll like the header image does (at least I think it does, it's been a while since I tried it), so I don't allow the buttons/menu items to move.
