Grid view in photo album

Hello. I would like to have a grid view in photo album. As in the default iphone app view with thumbnails. Has anyone done it using BT as a foundation and if so could you pleas point me into the right direction? BR/Stefan

@st726 - thanks. I´m developing a app for a artist (painter) so I really need the photo section to be more native.

Yup...Grid views are cool. We have not implemented a canned solution for this, mostly because we havn't been able to get to it with all the other goings on. This type of view is a more difficult than most folks realize but it's for sure doable given enought time. I guess following some online tutorials would help but none of them are going to be related to the details associated with your app's control panel data. Another idea: If you're using a gallery with a few dozen images (not hundreds) you could try making a button menu (grid layout) with the images as the 'background images' for the buttons, no round corners and 2 or 3 pixels of margin. Experiement with the sizes. I'll be it looks like the photo app? The buttons could lead to another screen, or all the same gallery. It wouldn't be able to know where to start (in the gallery) so it's not ideal but it could work OK depending on the design. I do know the button menus begin to perform poorly with lots and lots of buttons so you'll need to be mindful of trying this approach with tons of images.

@David - Thanks for the button tip. I wouldn't come up with that idea if you even gave me a billon years head start :). I'll try that -since the amount of images is less then 20. Maybe it's even a better solutions in this special case since I also need 2 albums (oil paintings) and (etchings). Making 2 sets of button menu would give me this. All the Best/S

@David - Maybe this can be done by creating a html page with the images' thumbnails put side-by-side(like a grid) and by assigning a link to them which goes to the image itself. So the page will look like iphone photo gallery/browser. And when you tap image no 1, you'll go to image no 1 etc. This can be useful when you want to show too many images, but the way you told can be easier if you have like 16 images or so. Can be done or not, just an idea :)

I like your idea @Ninjaselo. If the html and images is embedded the app will also be faster loading the page. But then again the app itself will be heavier. I need to evaluate this approach as well.

Ninjaselo: Totally bailed on the trouble you were having the other day. I've been travelling (Vegas tommorrow) and trying to keep up with the laptop and the MiFi thing. Laughs. Not sure where that issue ended up (the one from the other day) but I'll revist it when I get settled. Image grid in HTML. This is a great idea! Especially if the images can be included in the project. I make take it a step further and make a series (16 is easy) of basic HTML pages to hold the image list and a little javascript routine. Tap the thumgnail loads this page at the right starting index. Next / prev buttons do the rest. Great idea!

@David - My app was approved with the errors :) so I'm not in a hurry to get rid of the error messages. Have a nice trip to Vegas(I hope it's not for work, you have to rest sometime...)

Work for sure! Gotta have some revenue coming in from somewhere...this BT thing is getting expensive! LOL. http://www.mygoaltracking.com/ has been our primary source of income for a decade or so and we have built up a very loyal client list of new and used car dealers. This gang of car dealers meet Vegas every now and again for a convention. One our national customers relies on us to speak to their group of dealers each year. We rely on them too so we are happy to present whenever they need us. Business as usual ;-)

@David - Please get a paypal donation thing or like wise. I'm sure a lot of us is willing and able to pitch in some dough. Or let us know if there is anything that we can do in order to increase your costs. I'm thinking delete unnecessary files from your backend. I did remove some testapps that doesn't do anything more that eat space. Have a great weekend. In Sweden everybody is preparing for the weekend. The midommarafton is like a your thanksgiving , where we are celebrating the summer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer Later/S

Thanksgiving ....awesome. Deleting files...good idea. We do lots of that auto-magically through some nightly routines. The biggest bottle neck recently has been the web-server to the database-server 'slow down'. These are multiple machines, all high powered by all very very busy. The control panel and site traffic is one thing, literally hundreds of thousands of phones making millions of requests is another thing altogether. The next step is to sepearte these two very differnet loads. When things get busy and the site slows down, it's not as bad as when the phones can't connect. The phones aren't human and don't understand this kinda thing, funny. The hardest part is the engineering so all data is synched and matching regardless of what machine it's on. It's not the tough on a small scale but the amount of info and shear number of requests being serves is monumental and super hard to deal with without taking everyone offline every few days. Ugh. Expect to see a speed up sometime next week when we get yet another machine online. Of course it will only be faster until the next ridiculous spike in traffic. Where's the guy who built facebook when you need him! Enjoy the feast.

David, have you ever thought about using LiteSpeed Web server instead of Apache? LiteSpeed is MUCH faster and can handle a much bigger load than Apache. I know PHP executes about twice as fast, and the web server itself is about 9x faster than that of Apache.

Good advise. I worked with LighSpeed a few years ago but not for awhile. For sure we'll look into it again. Great tip.

David, Sorry for making a reply here. I didn't want to create a new thread. Hopefully you're like me and get email notifications for new posts. Have you ever thought about trying CloudFlare? I use it on all my sites (I use a LOT of resources for my little shared hosting) and it works amazingly. It caches static data and serves it to your visitors rather than the server itself, and also makes your website(s) more secure. Not to mention all the other features. I'm not sure how it would work with BuzzTouch, but if I'm right, CloudFlare's servers would be serving data to app users. This is also good for app users, because CloudFlare has datacenters all over the world, while BuzzTouch is just in the USA. I believe LiteSpeed Web Server and CloudFlare would greatly increase BuzzTouch's stability. You can always try CloudLinux, too. Personally, my websites are hosted on a shared hosting server with CloudLinux, powered by LiteSpeed web server and each has CloudFlare setup. Great performance, never had downtime. When your server goes down, CloudFlare takes over and keeps it up. Hope I helped!

Hi, I've just started with BuzzTouch and love it so far. It does everything I need, EXCEPT the thumbnails for the Photo Galleries. Is this in the works for a future release? If not, has anyone come up with a solution that they would care to share?

You could... a) Create a button menu with images (thumbnails) that lead to galleries. Use the thumbnail images as the background image for the buttons. Works good for a small amount of image. c) Create a dynamic script on your website to output the images from your website's backend. Same as a), create a button menu from this dynamic script. This is a better approach if you have lots of images. See this http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/screen_menuButtons.php for info about the output your backend script will produce.
