RSS opening website

Hi All, My RSS feed on both iOS and Android is going straight to the website. The RSS feed is: feed://www.tdnforums.com/index.php?/rss/forums/2-unreleased-neopets-news-from-tdn/ I need it so that it doesn't open up the website to view the content. Can you tell me how to do this? I also tried using Yahoo Pipes to bottle the RSS feed, but that didn't help either. Much appreciated! J.

That really isn't an issue. That is what is intended. In v1.4 you don't have any control over this in the control panel. If you update to v1.5, you have some control over the link function but at the moment there is no Android support.

doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of an rss reader if you have to go to the main site to read the posts :/

I'm using v1.5 - where do I go to edit the link functions?

Things to note: Android is not yet available in v1.5. The RSS feed page does not include an internal RSS reader, hence why it links to whatever website your content is being pulled from. To modify what the link function points to or to not include it: under Advanced Story Properties --> XML Element Data-Points --> Link XML Element is where you would put the XML element type that you want to be the link. You can make this any element type included in your RSS feed. I'm certain you won't be satisfied with the answer but there it is.

haha thanks Phaques. if there is no internal RSS reader, I'll have to come up with a solution myself. And when I wrote the post I was using 1.4, but now I've decided to use iOS 1.5 and wait for Android to come to 1.5

Here is a solution: Start a wordpress blog. Install the plugin FEEDWORDPRESS, and add your feed to your blog. Make sure you set the update times, and manualy update it to download the latest posts. Next, install WP MOBILE DETECTOR, which will make sure the app launches in a mobile theme. Then, you are set! Use that RSS feed, and then it won't open up the full site, but rather a much nicer mobile enhanced interface. And yes, I did just answer my own question :D

Those are good options. I use WordPress Touch to support mobile devices. No need for additional plugins, just that one.

Hi folks: If I understand this right the RSS (I'm talking v1.4 here) links were opening the web-page and not the story itself. If this is the case, open the RSS feed with Firefox (regular browser) and View Source. Does the feed you're using have a link element for each story or is the element names something else? If it's named something else, or isn't Standard RSS output it will not work. Like @phaques said, v1.5 tries to help with this issue because so many people use RSS that they don't own. The idea is that the app owner would be producing the RSS format / feed from their website pointing to their content. As it turns out, lots of folks are pulling in RSS feeds from all sorts of places that they don't control so they results are not what they expect. There isn't anything we can do about this. If the RSS output is not formatted as expected it will not work. @mikehannon: 'whats the point' - see the previous sentance. The point is that you would pull in RSS content that you provide and therefore controlled it's output. If you're pulling in RSS content that is not formatted the way the app expects you'll get results you don't expect. @javooooo: 'Please update us on the issue' We realize you just started using the service so this perspective makes sense. You'll see pretty soon that there is not paid support offered on this site. This is a free service and every post does not get answered every day. Most of the posts get answered pretty quickly but some of them go several days because there are thousands of them and a few of us ;-) Hopefully you've got it figured out. If not, of course re-post and it'll get looked into.

Thanks David. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude or unappreciative, I thought BT had an in app RSS reader. I'm working on finding a solution myself, and thanks for making such a great CMS. When I said Please update us... I merely intended to acknowledge mike had the same problem. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi David, My rss feed is generated by wordpress, so I would have thought it would be standard, though it is behaving the way you have described; opening the website instead of the story. Here is the RSS if it helps :/ http://tinyurl.com/5umkmo3 Thank you for your response!

@ mikehannon: Have you looked at the XML output of that RSS feed? Open it in Firefox with your regular browser then View Source. There is not 'link' element for each story. There is a guid element that holds urls like this one: http://www.eroticartnews.com/?p=339 This means you'll need to do one of two things. Either change the output of the RSS to include a 'link' element. Or, use buzztouch v1.5 and map the 'guid' element to the link. Hope this makes sense.

of course I've looked at it ^_^ and there appears to be a <link> tag underneath every <title> tag... isn't there?
