Copy a BT app (solution provided)

Hi David, This question has been asked before in the past, but I just wanted to make sure. Building a copy of an app by hand is a lot of work :) Is there a option to copy a BT App so I can make a free and paid version of the app? Just a thought: you can make an app running 100% local by putting the configuration data on the device, so apparently all relevant info is in the configuration data. So it should be super-easy to copy the configuration data (change the unique app id) and put back on the BT CMS, It's that simple! I hear David thinking: wow, wy didn't I think of that, brilliant! Well, I forgive you, just make it happen.... :-) Bottomline: can I copy a BT app (and work with it in the control panel)?

Hi Claudio, thanks for pointing me to that thread. I should improve my search skills... (it's a pitty one can only search on post-titles, not the content). I will try to wait for the duplicate feature (my app is now under Apple review, once approved the duplicate (light) version is next) Thanks Peter

Hi peter.... cool that you have an app in review, can't wait to see it. One of the challenges with the duplicate app feature is not realted to the complexity of the code at all. Instead, it's related to us allowing folks to create dozens and dozens, hundreds maybe, of apps with one click. Consider this: Each app uses far more resources on our end than most folks realize. If a user simply 'duplicated' hundreds of apps, all without any purpose really, just to explore, our backend would quickly fill up with massive amounts of apps that were, well, 'experiemental.' We already have tons of apps that are exactly that...tests, experiements, incomplete, and we understand this. No worries there. However, it's another thing altogether to allow folks to quickly and easily fill our backend systems with not-so-useful data. Funny how that works. So, we continue to work out a way to balance the 'free' concept with the 'don't take advantage of us concept' Most of our users totally understand this but 1 outta 100 seem to have no regard for our generosity and do all they can to make it hard on us. Ahh...the internet....gotta love it. We'll get a good solution worked out eventually.

Hi David, I guess a -special- request for copying an app is out of the question? Your right, can't get that starting, waterfall of -special- request heading your way... I understand the challenges you and your team have. I must say that you guys are doing a tremendous good job delivering this platform and all features! (Yeah, David 4 President...) Hope my app gets approved in the first try and will post the link when available. Thanks ! Peter

Just a thought, for most users I think there would only be a need to duplicate once (to create Lite and Pro versions) or maybe 3 (Lite, Pro and Max versions) after that I think it would be more a case of upgrading app content/functions as the app evolves Based on that assumption, would it be easy to implement a 'max duplicate 2x' facility per app, or something along those lines?

Hi Steve, I agree, that should exactly be the only use for the duplicate option. (To create Lite and Pro version, or perhaps one experiment version.) So a max duplicate 2 times would be sufficient.

The method I posted (Which claudio pointed out) works perfectly fine for making a Paid version and a Lite version. If you'd like any tips, or would like to ask me (an expert at BuzzTouch) a question, feel free to do so on this thread; I'd be happy to help you. David, I see exactly what you mean. I couldn't even begin to count how much disk space and especially bandwidth BuzzTouch uses. Thankfully, I'm starting to put everything on my own hosting (DropBox CDN, that is) to save you guys bandwidth.
