email link on custom html text bug (iOS)

I added an email link in a custom html page, and filled in the form that came up to automatically populate my email's to field, subject and some of the body. Unfortunately, when I click on the link on my iphone4, the last line of the body text is in the to field, and there's nothing in the subject field, and the address the email is to go to is nowhere to be seen. (iOS, buzztouch1.5)

Sounds screwy. What form did you fill in that 'came up automatically to pupulate my emails to field' ? In other words, if you created a link in some HTML, with a mailto: tag in the HREF value of the link, where did the form come from?

I used your html generator to make the link ;-) in a custom html/text page.... > the link icon with the globe >link type: email

Ah... I see. Hmm....can't say i've used the editors built in link thing. Funny. Try entering the html by hand (source view), maybe the editor's screwy ;-) If you're usure about the syntax, google 'email anchor tag' I would be suprised if iOS honors some super-old (like 20 years old?) HTML markup for pre-filling subject / body but you could try.

did you ever figure this out? I'm having a similar problem. Is there a better way to link to the launch native function from within a custom html page?

Nope. Not even if I used my own custom html.

The one thing I did figure out is if you just put the email address in the body of the html, the link is created automatically and opens properly in the email program with the to address filled in. Haven't figured out how to populate the subject line though.

If Im understanding this, does this mean a ?subject=this is the subject appended to an email link is not working? In this case, only two things are possible. a) The HTML is not formatted right. This could be a limitation of the HTML editor in the control panel. b) iOS is not getting the same HTML as the editor is displaying. Be sure the mobile app is loading well formatted HTML?

has there been any fix found for this? I am trying to insert a <a href=mailto:......html code into my app and when clicked on it opens the mail application but does not fill in the email address or subject as it should... anyone have ideas?

@dakorpsta007: All sorts of variations on this same type of trouble. The place to start for sure is to look closely at the mailto: link. Does it have a to-address? Does it have any special characters in the data? iOS does crazy stuff with mailto links when using the build-in web-view. And, to make matters harder, it behaves diffferent than the built in Safari that usually works well ;-) Great discussion and a few fixes here: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=46D9126E08CE3CDFF496B15&status=&searchInput=mail&sortColumn=FT.lastPostUTC&sortUpDown=DESC¤tPage=1&doViews=1
