Icon types and sizes (Iphone and iPad)

Sorry about this - have been away for a few weeks but now back. I have a problem which is stopping me going any further with my quizz. Its how I present the icons/background pics etc. I can't tell easily what can be a jpg and what can be a png. Also, I checked over some pixel sizes for my quizz and for example, at 72 x 72 I couldn't see anything on the screen! Do I need to specify a resolution with my 72 x 72 pixel size. I believe I need to supply a smaller size - is it 59 x 59? I did see something - so Im thinking I just cant go any further until I have the pics for each screen - can some one help me in any way as to how I get my pics/jpgs/icons all to the correct size so that I can see them and use them? Also, I have taken some quite large pics, like 6Mb and ill be cropping these - down to size. Haz BT got any means by which this can be done within BT?

Hello Dennis and welcome back. Not sure about what images you're asking about for the quiz. You refenced background and icons, but I don't know where icons would be shown in the quiz. The background should be the screen size. See http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html My vote on JPG/PNG is to usually go with PNG files, unless you need a large amount of color specific detail to be shown. You can save PNGs for the web (in PhotoShop) and it greatly reduces the file sizes. If you have Photoshop, it's quite easy to set up an automation script and have the computer batch resize images. If you do not have the $$$$$ for PhotoShop, as it is pricey, I suggest checking out GIMP here. http://www.gimp.org/If you install this plug-in you can batch resize. http://registry.gimp.org/node/25047 Let me know if you have any specific questions. On skype now.

Hi Eric, yes back now and trying to take up where I left off. I have a quiz idea - I want to use a picture as an answer to my question. When the pic is not the subject of a question - it will be a background to my question. The problem is that I have seen so many examples and sizes for pics / backgrounds etc. I used the Icon as an example - no of course its not in the quiz - but my app needs one so I started there. I saw a size of 72 x 72 pixels - I also saw a smaller one. But when I got down to it - for whatever reason, I couldn't see the 72 x 72 on the screen!! (let alone the smaller one - so what am I doing wrong? I have lots of my own pics - all associated with construction in the UK. All big pics 12mb - so I know I need to crop and reduce - but when I try it as I say, I cannot see the 72 x 72 because its so small. I have photoshop. And finally, Reading other books - I see some favour Jpg others .png - I was after a little adjudication on this one - cheers Eric
