AdWhirl?

Hi, I just started using buzztouch couple of weeks ago and I must say I am very impressed - brilliant stuff, thank you very much! I am on the early adopters for v.1.5 list and I can see there is a support for Apple's iAd, AdMob and MobFox which is very nice. However, I would be also very happy to see integration with AdWhirl or a simillar ad mediation layer solution. With that you wouldn't need to do anything to support other ads providers. Is adding something like that being considered? Cheers, Piotr

Hi Piotr: We've not heard of AdWhirl but will look into it. Like you, we want to be as flexible as possible so app owners can choose their ad provider. It's though when you work with a fixed list of providers because the list keeps growing! Funny. Today, the only one that's supported is iAd, MobFox and AdMob are coming soon. We'll see if we can get AdWhirl on the list. Most of them work the same way so it's not too tough to add additional providers. Stay tuned ;-)

Don't know if this helps but AdWhirl is a part of AdMob.... AdWhirl just allows for more configuration like custom in-house ads.

Yes, AdMob has been bought by AdMob. However, you can configure it to serve ads not only from AdMob, but also iAd, BrightRoll, Google AdSense, Greystripe, InMobi, Jumptap, MdotM, Millennial Media, OneRiot, Quattro, VideoEgg, ZestADZ, and... OK, that's all I can see right now in the AdWhirl's Ad Networks Settings but AdWhirl is Open Source and Object Oriented so it should be easy to add support for another ad network / provider by implementing an adapter - a class in Objective C (for iOS) and/or Java (for Android). So you can configure it to allocate certain % of traffic to each of the ad provider you use. But I think more important is that you can configure backfill priorities for each network, so if, for example, a request for an iAd fails, than it will try to get an ad from, for instance, AdMob. Unfortunately, ad providers do not always have enough ad inventory to serve to all requesting apps. Ad mediation layer solutions like AdWhirl or its competitors like MobClix try to fill these gaps. Custom in-house ads are very useful if you have multiple apps on the market, as they allow you to cross advertise the apps. I must say before I learned about AdWhirl I did roll up a similar thing, albeit much much simpler. The only thing it was doing was to check which country is the user of my app in, and if he's in one of those ones supported by Apple's iAd program (USA, UK, and only few others at the time) than it was using iAd, otherwise AdMob. But I am abandoning it now and switching to AdWhirl. Hope that helps.

Hey David, I know you are super busy but I found this post and was wondering if there has been any progress on adwhirl? If you were going to add a new ad network then I think adwhirl is the way to go, it gives us a lot of control and the ability to maximize our profits. Thanks for all you do!
