Custom HTML - vanishing text

About half of the text disappears never to be seen again in v1.5 Custom Text screens after hitting save.

We started hearing about this earlier in the day and have been digging around. Amazing how one 'simple' component can cause so much confusion on our end and our users end. We've heard a few different issues. A few folks say it just shows an error, another few say it does not show an error but is not saving the entries. Which are you seeing? If it's showing an error it makes sense that it wouldn't save anything. If no error is showing, and it's not saving, it's gonna be challening to find. I have yet to be able to duplciate anything wrong with the editor today, tried a bunch of times. Surely somethings wrong, just don't know what. The good news: None of the entire being entered / saved are being stored in the database. The lastest changes (from a few weeks ago) changed this to avoid what you and I went through last month. Now, the text is literaly being saved to the file system as an .HTML page. In other words, when you press save an HTML page is saved on our end and none of the HTML is saved to the database.

Is this related? Error- there was a problem parsing some configuration data. Please make sure it is well formed. App: National School Band Association - HTML page 'About Us2' had disappeared so I tried to reinstate it and now app, already passed through the app store, fails to load at all; just black screen with that error message

@ cjbarnard: I don't think so. The trouble's we are hearing about are in the buzztouch v1.5 contorl panel, your app is v1.4 I just downloaded and tested your application on the simulator and two different devices. Works well with one exception. The NSBA Trustees screen is very jumbled and contains lots of mysteriuos characters. Like A with the two dots of the letter and other things. Could it be that you cut-n-pasted the content from Microsoft Word? Word and other text-processor packages oftetimes inject hidden control and format characters that iOS doens't handle very well. the Info Screen also has some strange formatting. The app loads fine and doens't show the error you're reporting. Have you tried the Refresh button? Also, to get rid of the funky characters you'll want to type the content in the editor and not cut-n-paste. I emailed you a screen shot

OK, good progress, strange strange strange. What I did: a) Downloaded the project b) Build > Run. ERROR, configuration data is invalid c) Copied the BT_config.txt file from the Xcode project. Pasted it in a very cool JSON validator here: http://jsonlint.com/ d) That validator showed me the error. A strange 'control character' included in the data was making it invalid (not sure why yet) e) Visited the apps Core Settings scree, clicked the link to 'show the configuration data' f) Copied this data into the JSON validator. Same error. This was expected because this config data should be an exact copy of the config data downloaded with the project. g) I vistited the screen in question, 'About Us' and looked at the HTML. I could see nothing wrong. I clicked Save anyway. I didn't change anything, just Save h) I re-loaded the config data in the browser using the link in Core settings again. i) Re-tested in the JSON validator. GOOD THIS TIME. I refreshed the data in the simulator and on the device...all good. So, I guess it helps us to understand that the issue is related to the Custom HTML screen and it's editor but I can't for the life of me figure out what's happening. For peets sake, all I did was click Save (I'm sure you did this too). So, the search continues. In the future, feel free to use the very cool tool here: http://jsonlint.com/ to validate whatever configuration data your app is struggling with, it really helps identify some mysterious issues ;-)

That is absolutely first class! I wouldn't have had a clue where to start. I did rebuild the About Us 2 page between our messages - don't know if this had any impact on your testing? Many thanks. (Surely its around 5 a.m. where you are???)

2:30 AM here, long day for sure! There's something wrong with the HTML / Text Editor + the backend and we're not sure what it is yet. Sometimes we just gotta bite the bullet, dig in, and stick with it until we get it. You can't imagine the load on this equipment...extraordinarily busy servers and when something goes crazy lots of folks are affected. Sleeps can wait ;-)

I should have been happy with what I had but I thought the Nav bar on the NSBA (buttons ) page would look better in black. So I set about changing it (Ooops!) and got 'Error saving' message - app then refused to open a few times but is now working again with original colour (#330099) in nav bar, which I can live with until system stable again.

We just issued a restart command on several servers. All should be OK now.

@ nelsonlo: What happens when you load the screen, click the screen name in list. We've been trying to solve a problem with the HTML editor on the Custom HTML screen settings over the weekend. In fact, I think we have it solved now, waiting for some feedback. This means you may have had trouble with the editor. It does not mean that something would have mysteriously vanished without visiting the settings in a Custom HTML screen.

Still not working for me. It appears that the Save button doesn't do anything, different problem than the vanishing text.

@WolfTimJ: The Save button doesn't do anything? Load any Custom HTML screen - REFRESH your browser so the latest javascript include loads (the editor uses lots of javascript that may be cached in your browser). See if Save works.

Curious if the Editor is fixed. . . I have kind of been on hold, but maybe my cache still has some of old editor. When I put text in, then changed the background color - poof, some text was gone. If I re-saved, it would reappear. I found if I copied the HTML from the sample HTML out of Xcode and pasted it instead of the HTML in the editor, all seemed to be fine. . . Is it just me?

I do think it's just you - giggles. No comments in days, tons and tons of new html files from users (thousands). Empty cache, refresh, you'll be fine.
