Is it possible to load my app to an iPhone from anywhere other than iTunes?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, not sure how to search for this and can't locate anywhere on the internet. Here goes... Once I compile my app using xcode, I see if the app runs okay on the simulator. My question is... where does the app go for download if it takes forever to get Apple to accept it for iTunes? Also, is it possible for me to have the app available for download just from my website and if so, how would I do that? Sorry, I am not even a novice when it comes to all of this so any insight would be greatly appreciate. Arlene

After you prepare the app in Xcode by archiving, validating and uploading to iTunes Connect...it will go in to a review queue that usually takes around 10-14 days for approval. You can put a link to the app on your website but it will be available in iTunes regardless.

I can't tell you how to do it, but if you don't want to sell your app (just share it) google Iphone app adhoc. adhoc is the publication method that bypasses the store.

Arlene, Sorry if there is too much geek speak in this post. The short answer is your app will be nowhere, till Aplle approves it and you cannot To answer your questions, the app does not go anywhere while Apple reviews it. The app can only be downloaded from iTunes or an alternative market place. You cannot host the files on your site for download when it is for iOS apps. (Unless you're talking about the Ad Hoc distribution TheHoogler mentioned, that can be linked to your site but then you have to charge on the side and you are limited to 100 devices only) The alternative marketplace option other then going through Apple is to try to use one like Cydia. Cydia is an app market place that can be used only by device users who have jailbroken their iPhone/Pad/Touch. So the market share is smaller then the Apple Store. Let us know if you need any other info.

Hi Everest11, The Hoogler and erichopf, thank you so much for your replies, I really appreciate it! So let me see if I have this right based on what you've said and what I've read... I download xcode from the mac store I will compile in xcode I will then check the app in a simulator I then upload the app to iTunes Connect (is this the same as the Mac App Store)? Apple reviews for a couple of weeks App goes live on iTunes App is only usable if it is downloaded from iTunes If all of the above is correct, then here are a couple of questions for clarification and more important, just my own education... Is it possible that Apple would reject the app (it's just an educational app for people who want to start their own clothing line) Once it is on iTunes, is there anything else I have to do in terms of maintenance, so for example, how would I deal with any changes I make to the app over time, does that require me to go through the same review process again. If I want people to know that the app is out there, do I just put a link to it on my website or is there someway for people to download the app directly from my website (which is then pulled from iTunes)? I'm sorry if all these questions are really elementary or covered elsewhere in the forum here, I didn't know how to phrase the search question to elicit the answers. Thanks so much, I really appreciate your help! Arlene

You need to become a member to get access to all of this with Apple. Reviews for me are usually 7 days, but got 2 through last week in 5 days :)

You should be able to download XCode without being a member (Free from App Dev site. XCode 3 or 4 works.). That way you can play with the simulator to see if Buzztouch is what you need. Before you submit, you should check the app on a device (ipod, iphone, etc) and to do this, you have to have a paid account. Once your app is approved, updates are done in a similar manner (except, review periods are shorter). Certain things can be updated in Buzztouch, and you will see the immediately result in your app. If Buzztouch puts out a new release (like Schooner), then you'll have to submit a new version to Apple. You'll get the hang of it. Hope this helps.
