Tab bar icon v1.5 problem

Hi, I'm having a problem with custom tab bar icons: When I click on the tab layout, then select an icon from the default pop up icons no problem. However if I type in my own icon name instead and save it, for example rss.png, the icon doesn't appear on the app in the ios simulator. But when I take the same custom icon and save it with the name of one of the existing icons, e.g star.png and select that, then my custom icon shows up! Whats going on? Is this is bug or am I doing something wrong.

Rohan, Greetings from the other side of the pond, happen to be chatting now with my good friend in London. To the point at hand. After building your source code and downloading the app. You need to open the project in Xcode, and drag and drop your icon in the BT_Images folder. A window should pop up and you will need to confirm. If you drag and dropped the image from your source to the folder via Finder, Xcode has no reference to the file and cannot find it. Hope this helps. Please let us know if you are still having a problem.

Mackimack, You actually can create your own icons, as long as they are saved properly in pngs, are the proper size (around 28x 28). In a few of my apps, my custom icon.png files work fine. BT uses some of the glyphish icons. If you use other icons from glyphish.com, please remember you need to make sure to attribute the creator of the icons in your app or on your website.

Hi Eric, Mackimac, Thanks for the help - works great! Also checked out glyphish, they have some nice icons. Also might be worth having a look at this program for making icons: http://www.axialis.com/tutorials/make-iphone-icons.html - Windows only, but works well under an emulator on a Mac Many thanks Rohan

Mack, Perhaps I misunderstood your post? I disregard the colour info and use a single grey-scale image, generally black, white, or grey depending on the overall feel and the highlighting of the tab changes the look. Apparently that is also what ever example/free version of icons I could find but it is not stipulated in the Apple documentation that only grey scale images work. Didn't mean to confuse you, making you think that color tab icons were workable.

Hi Mack, to to add a comment about the tab icons, they work on alpha values, i.e. levels of transparency, so colour information is disregarded. If you open up one of the PNGs in photoshop you'll notice that it has shades of black or white, with a clear background, which can be exported as a png for web. A good tutorial can be found here ... http://osmorphis.blogspot.com/2009/02/tab-bar-icons-part-1_4115.html
