Using your software for updates if app was not created here

I was at the last iPhone meet up in Mountain View and got to see your presentation. I have a question. Please keep in mind I am not a developer, programmer or engineer of any kind :). I work for Children's Discovery Museum and they had a developer make an iPhone/iPad app based on one of our exhibits. It has not yet been submitted to Apple. The person who started this left the museum and our developer is no longer available to help us. I was told to get it submitted. I am wondering if your software could help us in the future with updates and maintenance if we did not create the app on your software? Please let me know if you can help.Thank you, Donna

Donna, BuzzTouch uses a completely different way of designing apps, as compared to the traditional Objective C/ Xcode (Apple's developer program) method. Since the two are completely different, without trying to redo the app in BuzzTouch, you would not be able to update the app with BuzzTouch.

Just jumping in :) Option 1- make a buzztouch version: I think if your app contains quizzes, photos galleries, pages with text in them, web pages, videos, etc then you are good to copy it all to a new buzztouch app (literally copy video files, images, text, etc no coding). You just need an account here, copy all of the content into a new 1.5 app, download, compile and upload to Apple. For updates, this is great as for changes which don't involve physically adding new photos or videos to your app, you can do them online in buzztouch and your app get 'automatically' updated - you don't need to recompile and re-upload to Apple. To investigate this, get access to 1.5 and have a potter around to see what features might suit you. To upload to Apple to need a $99 dev account. Option 2 - use as it: If the app is already made, then you'll need to either get the details of the Apple developer account if possible, or if not pay $99 to Apple and open a new developer account. If you want to sell on iTunes there's no way around this. After this, assuming the app code is bug free, you open the app in xcode, compile it as you would any app (buzztouch or otherwise), test on a simulator, test ideally on an actual iphone/ipad, and then upload it to Apple. The only issue is if the app doesn't work right, as you're not a developer you won't be able to fix it. Then I'd suggest getting techy help from a developer or going back to option 1 above. G'luck. ps; I'm not a developer either, and once you get past about a day of hitting your head trying to get xcode to compile, its just brilliant. Stick with it!

@Pinscreen / Donna: Hi in Mountain View. I'm happy to see you're visiting the site and appreciate your interest in the idea of using buzztouch to complete / maintain the Children's Discovery Museum iPhone app. erichopf and elaine shared some insights and they are 100% correct in their thinking. It will be a matter of a) getting a buzztouch powered app created that is based on your existing ideas and requirements or b) finding somebody to help. We may be able to help you with both. Because you're local, and because we are genuinely interested in helping the Children's Discovery Museum (just looked at the site, very cool!) it may be that we could easily get your project running on buzztouch. This may not work, but my gut tells me it will. If you're interested in us helping you work out a possible solution, drop an email to info 'at' buzztouch.com with your contact information and we'll reach out when we get a chance. Our offer to help the Museum in sincere and we have zero profit / fee motive. This is a free offer to help. Good luck!
