Have you tested this in the device. Lots of things can cause this symptom when working with the simulator. Intall your app on a device - see what happens - I'll be the video plays fine.

OK, good. There is another post with the same symptom with a very simliar file type (ends in .mp4). I'll get a look at this in depth and report back to this thread. If you dont' see an update in a day or two, feel free to nudge the post ;-)

Bump. I am having the same issue. I have video types that end in .mp4. I'm testing on a device rather than the simulator. The link for the video is a direct link to the file rather than simply a URL. Anyone have any luck with this? Thanks!

Welcome MH- Need more info to point you in a direction. Is your app version 1.4 or 1.5? Are you running it in Simulator or debugging on a device? iOS or Andriod?

Hi and Thank you erichopf. Im running app version 1.4. I began testing in a Simulator for Android but couldn't get the video's to play. I then installed the app on a devise. The installation went smoothly but when I attempted to watch the streaming videos, an error was produced. It said Sorry, this video is not valid for streaming on this device. After pressing the OK button, it sits at a Start video stream... window, sayint to Please be patient. If you're on 3G this could take a bit. etc... The video's are in MP4 format and in HD 1280 x 720 and are hosted on a shared server. I plan to pick up a dedicated server once testing proves to be good to go. I am new to moble apps. I'm not sure if the issue is caused by the video format, resolution, hosting, etc. Thanks so much for your help!

MH, Firstly, my partner and I really liked Florance when we stopped for the night there. We recently did a foolish round trip drive to Florida for a family obligation, with a 4 1/2 month in tow. That was just so silly. Back to the point of order. I don't have any experience with BT and Android yet, more of a Mac guy. What are the sizes of the files? If you have an HD video with a slightly less then DVD quality setting, you're looking at about 25-30 MBs a min. So, streaming that will take some serious time with 3G. Have you tried using WiFi to see if your download is any quicker? Right now, I'm not terribly sure if the issue is BT or the files size of your vid. The other issue is that 1.4 only has streaming, no embedded option, but 1.5 has embedded files, but the Android component is still being worked on (hoping for a mid June arrival, but no promises.)

erichopf, Florence is a nice place... to visit. The Coast Guard brought me here in '95 but it's time to leave. Too much rain. Anyhow, what kind of setup is optimal for streaming video with 1.4? The video's do not have to be in HD. Are there some help files somewhere that explain the video streaming process for BT? I looked in the FAQ but not a lot of specific info on streaming video. During the tab setup option mp4 was mentioned. Is there another format that better suits streaming to a mobile devise? Thanks again, Michael

@Michael: Can you post or email ( info 'at' buzztouch.com ) a URL to one of your videos..I'll dig in and see what I can come up with. .MP4 should play on Anroid.

Cool, I'll get a look. Won't be tonight...check this post in the AM. I'll need to test on a few devices that are marooned on my desk at the office ;-)

Update... Just tried the .MOV in the simulator and it says that the video cannot be played. Same URL with the file named overlook3.mov

Simulators + Vidoes = almost never works. It could be that you never get the simulator to work - ever - no matter what you do. We've heard hundreds of reports of simulators not playing videos. Not sure why...it's best to test video on a device ;-)

Thanks David. I thought that might be the case with the simulator. I just tested the .MOV file on a Droid X with no luck. Gives an error that the video cannot be played.

One more note: I looked into the FAQ of my host and they state that they only support HTTP Streaming. Would this be causing the issue? If so, do you recommend a hosting company that will work with streaming content to mobile devises using Buzztouch? Thanks again!

MH, Hope David can help lend some help, as he is the master. I am not sure that 1280 x 720 is the best route to go, as the Droid X has a scree that is 480×854 pixels. MP4 or MOV should work, but if you have files that are way larger then need be, it's going to take way longer to stream to the phone and it might cause a timeout. So it could help to optimize for mobile phone devices, unless you have your eye on this app being on a lot of tablets. I searched, and look at the options offered on this free program I found. http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ Best to try to find something where you can re-size the video to something more along the lines of 832 x 468 at 720p. That size difference (about 30-35% less) will save you bandwidth and the end-user's time.
