Streaming?

I want to stream music and videos but is it only possible if I add the file to the app or can I use an online hosting? If I use the online hosting do I select streaming or custom url?

Depends: buzztouch v1.4 only supports streaming only from a URL (not a file in Xcode or Eclipse). buzztouch v1.5 allows both. To stream from a URL, simply enter it in the Streaming Audio or Custom URL screen. These screens work a little differently but both should work with a valid URL.

Streaming videos and music via URLs refers to hosting the file on a site in either mp3 for audio or video in Mov or mpv4 format. Doing a steam of audio broadcast channel is another ball of wax.

What are some good hosting sites for videos, music, and pictures?

Most of the users I have seen in threads have their own website/web hosting plan. Try Google, it will be the most help answering your questions.

This is my major issue as well, and I'm really stumped on this. My app is 56 short videos. Now, I can find places like BrightCove and Limelight that say they stream video, however, they do no provide the url for the video file itself. I've been all over Google endlessly about this and cannot find the kind of provider you all are talking about. I've uploaded a video file to my wordpress account, found the video url http://rootguru.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/day-1-am-test.mp4, stuck it into the video streaming page on my app, but the eclipse emulator reports this video is not valid for streaming to this device When I click okay a screen comes up saying it is starting the video stream and to be patient, but nothing shows. I've also used the custom url page with a link to the brightcove player for the video and just get a blank page. And, I've tried inserting the embed code into a custom html page and just get a blank page. I don't have any error messages, so what to do?

.mp4 should stream / play on Android. I just played the video from the URL you posted...cool. We are knee deep in a long weekend up updates but I'll get a look at this in Android in a day or two. If you don't see a new post on this thread, give it a nudge ;-)

Are mp3 and mp4 the only extensions that work for streaming?

I've been trying to get BrightCove and Delve Networks/Limelight to help me find the video file URL. Delve won the day. You put the rss feed url into a browser and then you can find the media file url in there. Ta dah!!! Highly recommend Delve Networks as a streaming video provider. You can find them here: http://www.delvenetworks.com/ I've also worked with Hipcast over the years for audio podcasts, and I see now that if I copy the rss feed associated with a video I've uploaded there, and then open it in a browser, I can also find the video file url. Hope this helps!

scratch that about limelight/delve. It costs and arm and a leg, too, and doesn't support mobile devices specifically. Now, am checking out Third Presence which is specifically for mobile devices and less expensive, too.
