Initial SDK download not working

I am attempting to use Eclipse 3.6 after I download it. It is not being recognized by my PC. I am running Vista with plenty of RAM, HD etc. I am not sure what the problem is. I have successfully downloaded and opened the ADT portion. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi in Pittsburgh. Side note... I have fond memories of visiting family in Slippery Rock PA, just up the 79 from you ;-) 'not being recognized by my pc' - this is a tough symtpom. What exactly do you mean? What happens when you double-click the purple icon to launch Eclipse...does it open at all? I'm not sure how you opened the ADT portion without opening Eclipse. Lets start here... a) Can you open Eclipse b) If no to a, how are you opening the ADT

Hey there in Monterey. Side note, Slippery Rock is lovely in the fall and spring. Not sure what we are experiencing now though. This weather is wacko. I first downloaded the interface that allows you to simulate Android handsets, that's what I was referring to. That seems to work fine. My issue is with eclipse is after I download it. 1. I see it in my temp download folder 2. I click on the folder then it opens to a list 3 I click on the Eclipse application, it gives me the choice to run ot extract all 4.I click either and I get this error message This file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running

That's a good clue. Eclipse comes in a zip that does need un-zipped (un-archived) to a location on your computer before you can run it. Assuming you already unzipped it... the message means you have a version that isn't useable on your machine. This is almost always caused by the 64bit vs. 32bit difference. Be sure to download the proper version of Eclipse for your Windows / Hardware setup. Some machines are 64bit, some 32. Huge difference. Also....do a quick google search for 'eclipse not compatible with my version of windows'

Ok, I'm making some progress. I fixed the JAVA error, I got the simulator to load. Last issue Eclipse won't list Android as a new project choice. Is there something I am doing wrong?

OK...sounds like you don't have the Android SDK installed in Eclipse. You'll need to find the Install New Software choice in Eclipse. On my Mac it's in the Help menu, not sure on Windows. You use the Install New Software window to enter the URL to the Android Plugin. After installing the Android Plugin, all will be well. And..as usual, google 'Install Android Plugin' for tons of advice.

I have managed to download and install all needed items, I believe. My latest issue is launching my app in the simulator. When I create a new project and click the create from source button I keep getting 2 errors 1. this project has been created 2. It asked for a project description, no matter what I put in it says it's wrong.
