Ability to Search Text? Favorite results

Forgive me if this has been answered - I looked. Is there a way search the text in an app? My app (approved today, thank you), is a legal app, listing the Evidence Rules. It would be helpful to be able to search one or more partial words in the data to find the correct rule rather than just being menu driven. Can this be done, or is it something I need to figure out in Xcode (shudder). It would also be helpful to be able to favorite results and forward the result via e-mail. Thanks!

Search has been discussed and is close to being introduced in v1.5. Here's how it works (when we complete it and introduce it): Again, this is for v1.5 apps, not v1.4 a) In each screens Advanced Settings you can choose to 'include screen in search results' b) You create a 'searchable menu' (a new screen type) This screen is a menu-list with a search-box in the header c) When a user searches, they are searching the the Nickname of screens that have 'include in search results' d) Tapping an item loads that screen. This approach will allow you to add any type of screen to the results. Content, Maps, Video, etc. Favorites are another idea but we have not designed this yet. We may or may not, it's rarely asked about ;-)

Search would be great! I built the Ohio Evidence App in v1.4, but my new App (Search4) is in v1.5 - it's waiting approval. Can I convert my v1.4 to 1.5? By the way, v1.5 is awesome! Very flexible. Very easy. Very powerful. Thank you!

We've been trying to instroduce a v1.4 > v1.5 converter but have been delayed a few times. When v1.5 is released to the public (it's for Early Adopter's only) it will be completed.

I'm getting ready to release a revised app in v.1.5 (to sit in a queue at Apple, waiting forever for approval, it would seem). Any idea on when the search feature may be released? Just curious if I should wait, or release it and add the search page later. Thanks again.

We don't have an official date (we never do, hard to predict). Generally you it's not best to wait on us because you can easily submit app updates later if you want. Thats kinda the idea. As we introduce new stuff, you can decide to offer new things to your end-users or not. Wish we had a better timeline, we just don't.

David, I see the Search, Organize and Bookmark on Right Button Type under advanced menu properties. Search and Bookmark would be great features for my apps - - but a question: the Buzztouch update says, Step 1 is app-owners marking screens to be included in the results. Step 2 is us looking at this data more completely before finalizing the mobile software. Okay, I give. Am I missing where to mark the screens, or is this not out yet? As always, thank you.

@DPinoh The Search, Organize, etc buttons are just icons at the moment. They don't actually do anything other than act as links to another page. I'm awaiting the search function as well. Gotta find some way for people to sift through hundreds of pages :) David, when you do implement the screen marking, which tab would it be under? (That way we can be on top of it).

OK...per the last update document for v1.5. We will be adding an 'include in search results' option in the Advanced Settings of each screen very soon. We hoped to have this option in your control panel already but havn't. Next day or two maybe? Right Buttons: The idea behind all the buttons, menu options and other tap-able controls is that you decide what screen to load with each tap. The right button type option is only the type of button and has nothing to do with the screen that loads when you tap it. Example: You have a super-duper-custom HTML doc that does something amazing, you choose the type of button that best represents that screens action. Hope this makes sense. The next iOS release will have a Search screen added to the types of screens you can add. At this point it will make sense to create one of these, then load it with a Search Button in the top right nav of some other screen.

Hi David, keep up the great work! I have been reading the various needs of people requesting an in text search function. I realize the search is limited to page nicknames. Do you think a metadata lst for a custom HTML or other page types might help to guide people to the page if not right to the exact word on the page. Or perhaps a bookmark word (or heading) tag to enable closer search function to the desired page or heading on a page? Food for thought. Tony
