News Ticker?

Hi guys, Going to push the boundaries on this one... Do any of you Xcoders know... a) how hard is it to create a simple news ticker on the home screen of the app? and b) could a beginner like me (who knows pretty much nothing) create on for my app? Ive google the idea but get back poor results. The idea in my head is just to have a simple bar (maybe 50px high) which runs text across the screen from left to right. Am I kidding myself or could this possibly be achieved? Many thanks.

This would not be too difficult. The tough part will be the text itself. It's one thing to get a sentance or some words to move across the screen, it's another thing altogether to randomize the text, pull it from a list of things (like quotes), etc. Post some thoughts on what exactly you want to display and I'll show you a few ways. And, of course the best approach will depend on what type of screen you want to put it on. Everthing's doable in programming, just a matter of balancing how much effort is needed to acheive the desired result.

Basically what I want is very simple (in theory). Id like to be able to customize simply a line of text that will run through part of my apps home screen. Any advancements on that would be a bonus but I'd settle for something very simple. Heres a .JPG of the basic layout of my homescreen, (http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd188/JustBlazeUK/newsticker.jpg) The yellow bar indicates where I would like a line of text to run, Im going to use the line of text just as a sort of update system. On a side note, would this type of 'news ticker' work the same with images, because that would be pretty cool? For like the home screen to have alternating images. Thanks.

Do you think this might be achievable?

Hi....yes....I tinkered with an idea the other day but havn't got it working yet. When I do, I'll post some info on how to get it working. It's a simple 'hoizontal text scroller' to go on your home-screen. Nudge this post in a few days if you don't see a new post.

Bear with me my friend... haven't forgot about this, just a bit behind lately. You'll be the first to know when I have something to send you.

Check your email and see if you can manage your way through the attachment. It's a matter of figuring out what view you want to add it to (probably BT_screen_menuList but any will work. a) Create a few variables in the .h file b) Set the values of those variables in the .m file c) Trigger the 'update ticker' method every few seconds. You'll need to tinker with the animation speed and 'size' of the label to balance your affect. (see the code). Hope this is what you were thinking. The sample frame (the position of the text) is basically in the middle of the screen animating from right-to-left like a typical marquee. Dig through the attachment, you'll see ;-)
