YouTube RSS with Images (Continued, Sorry!) v1.5 iOS

Hi guys, Im still having an issue with YouTube and displaying images in the RSS feed. Using a regular URL brings up the Title and Description of each video (recent uploads) and thats exactly what Im looking for. I just think adding thumbnails of the videos would give it a real professional look and feel. Ive tried two different kinds of URL for Buzztouch RSS for YouTube, they are... 1. http://www.youtube.com/users/grimetimepromotions/ & 2. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/grimetimepromotions/uploads The first one brings up the correct feed informatio but no images, the second brings up a blank screen (black), however on one of two occasions brought up an excessive amount of code, I think around XML? A forum member kindly helped me on a previous post with information for an XML file but I was a little lost and I really need the data from YouTube to be collected automatically as new videos are added. Is there a way this can be done on Buzztuch rather than having to go down the route of hosting an XML file on my website? Im not sure if I may have incorrect XML data? All my settings are at default. It looks as follows... Story XML Element: item Title XML Element: title Description XML Element: description Link XML Element: link Append Value to Link URL: (blank) Image XML Element: image My best guess is that 'Image XML Element' is where the right info needs to be but Im not sure how I'd alter the settings on order to get a feed with thumbnails from YouTube? If anyone could make this possible for me to have a YouTube feed with images on Buzztouch i'd be forever grateful. Many thanks.

Have you looked here for another avenue? I haven't played with it much, but look at the YouTube demo. http://gdata.youtube.com/demo/index.html

Here's how I got your feed to work: a) RSS Screen URL: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/grimetimepromotions/uploads Advanced Story Properites b) XML Element Data Points. For each value, enter this For Story use: entry (just the word entry) For Title use: title (just the work title) For Description. media:description (media colon description) For Link: link (just the word link) For Image: media:thumbnail (media colon thumbnail) Advanced List Properites c) RSS Icon / Image Sizes. Set Image Scale to 'scale' Refresh you app. Works great.

I was just about to suggest if the field for media:thumbnail was filled in. David once again is on top of it.

Hi Guys, Wow, thank you its absolutely perfect, just how I wanted it! I tried the media:thumbnail like you said erichopf, what I was missing was 'entry' and 'media:description'. But thanks for your first reply, by looking at the code I was able to learn a little bit more about how they work, so thanks for that! Youve been a really big help guys thank you so much, that was the last big issue on my app, now I can go ahead and design the rest of the graphics and launch! :)

Just as a follow up to this thread, can I ask, how was you able to determine the correct XML settings for the link? Does the data entry change for different RSS feeds?

You need to look at the RSS feed's source code. Depends on what browser you're using, but a window will popup with the XML code in it. There you will see things like media:group, media:category, etc. From there you can see what terms the RSS feed is using to define the elements and what you need to change to have BT input the fields where you want them.

Ive been looking at Source code for a few feeds that have all been different. Im using Firefox for Mac and it brings up the feeds nicely. Could I ask a favour? Would you please be able to point out the correct data on the link below?, Ive been looking at it but havnt had any luck as of yet I think I must be missing something. If I can get an idea of what to look for I'll be able to pick it out easier in future feeds. http://www.grimeforum.com/?feed=rss2 Thanks for your help.

The form does not allow html, -- are less than and greater than characters. This is a simple snippet of code i copied from the URL. After the URL loaded in my browser, I did a 'view source' to see this. Each 'item' in the RSS has all different kinds of 'sections' or more formally, 'nodes'. Each story has multiple nodes. In this example, the each RSS story begins with --item-- then has --title--, --link--comments-- etc. To get the link to work in the buzztouch RSS screen you would enter the word 'link'. Another example: If you wanted the 'creator' to show in the screens description line (the second line under the title) you would enter dc:creator (see the idea)? Another example: If you wanted the Published Date to show as the title (first line) and the creator to show on the description (2nd line), you would use pubDate as the title data element and dc:creator as the description data element and link as the Link data elements. --item-- --title--Merky ACE – April 4th Freestyle (Free Download)--/title-- --link--http://www.grimeforum.com/?p=6204--/link-- --comments--http://www.grimeforum.com/?p=6204#comments--/comments-- --pubDate--Tue, 05 Apr 2011 00:02:18 +0000--/pubDate-- --dc:creator--Lemon--/dc:creator-- It's just a matter of making sure you're looking at the raw data and not some fancied up web-page rendition of the data. Browsers are really good at making thing pretty but always show you the actual data. This is why you always want to 'View Source' when working RSS so you can actually see the data elements of each story. Note: Safari does a crappy job at this, even when viewing the source.... use Firefox of Chrome and you can really see the data because it's color-coded and organized better ;-)

Not sure I am sure what you're asking for. You might be confusing what the feed reader is showing and what the source code is. To view the source code, you have to go to the page and hit apple + U, or go to the top bar and click on the View menu, and towards the bottom you will see Page Source. If you need more info, let me know and I'll try and break it down for you.

It's just the images that are the main problem. I can find the image source etc... but 'media:thumbnail' doesnt always work :/, I just dont know where to look for the Image XML information.

Mr. Ice, Your feed is not set up to show images. It's the default rss feed generator. You need a plugin, so that it is given a tag that is readable. Try this- http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-rss-images/
