cking2729 Aspiring developer Posts: 17 Reg: Mar 12, 2011 Texas, USA 170	confirm \| cancel 03/28/11 08:49 PM (14 years ago) Multi-page PDFs Freezing upon zoom I've added several custom PDFs to my BT1.4 app. The 1 page PDFs load fine and can be zoomed, scrolled, etc. on my iPhone 4 w/ 4.2.1. However, my 2+ page PDFs (which are 1.7 MB in size) lock the app up when zooming. Sometimes it will recover from the freeze, sometimes the app will automatically return to the previous menu, and sometimes the app will totally crash to home and must be re-launched. I really don't see why my iPhone 4 wouldn't be able to handle these documents. I've manipulated much larger PDF docs seamlessly, albeit not on a buzztouch app. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem or if there's something I can do to alleviate the issue for my app purchasers. I realize it's not preferable for the PDFs to require zooming in the first place, however, it's inevitable my customers will want to zoom in, and I want to avoid crashing and other snags as much as possible. I've done lots of tests with very large (10 mb's) docs and they do find. One's over 100 pages ;-) So.. not sure what's happening here. Do you think it's an iOS 4.2.1 thing with the v1.4 app? In other words I wonder if the same thing occurs with the same app on a different device? Asking only because there are so many thousands of these things out there, with tons of PDF's and this is the first I've heard of crashing on zoom issues? Have you been able to see this happen while connected to Xcode? Maybe run the device, while connected, and look at the output console - may give a clue? v1.4 doesn't print much to the console to help (like v1.5 does) but Xcode usually prints error info on crashes. However, I have yet to get the simulator to crash out. It will simply freeze as if it's having difficulty working with the PDF, and then recover after ~5 seconds. I'm dumbfounded, since 1 page documents with the same text, font, material, etc are handled well. However, when I add another page to the doc, it's like the device is struggling to even zoom in.
