iOS -- Simulator missing in Xcode drop down menu

I downloaded the free Xcode and iOS SDK from the apple site. Next I launched my buzztouch_v14_iPhone folder and the blue X file. I followed the video until he selected the simulator from the drop down menu -- but there wasn't a simulator in the dropdown menu I have. Should I have bought it from the App store? Or is it located or called something else?

Watch the video in your control panel (or in the forum) that address the Common Gotcha's with xcode. It's a matter of setting the build settings for the project to the SDK you have, then probably closing / re-opening Xcode.
