Quiz question bank

Ok, I am new. Buzztouch is awesome! I plan to make series of Quiz apps for iphone and Andriod. Three questions I hope people can help me get started with: 1. Is there a way to increase the question capacity higher than 99? I have about 900 questions to pull from. Any advice on how to roll it out would be appreicated. For example, is 900 questions not feasable? Should I break the 900 into multiple app versions? Will Apple not approve multiple similar apps...any advie is appreciated. 2. Is there a way to upload many questions at once, instead of entering them one by one? 3. Are questions and related user info stored on Buzztouch or on my own website? Sorry if these are simple, I plan to fully engage and want to started properly. Any advice is much appreciated.

Don't be sorry, all good, you're just getting going ;-) And, becuase you've got the coolest pic on the forum, it'll be fun to help. So... if you're using v1.4 and not v1.5, it's a bit tougher to do what you're describing. v1.5 allows dynamic locations, meaning you can host files on your website to load the questions and related data. In 1.4, you'll be best off creating multiple quizes. There is not a way to upload questions. Again, 1.5 allows you to 'point' to your question files on your website making this much more flexible. Maybe get on the Early Adopter list and begin exploring that? See your control panel for info about getting on the list.

Thanks. I am now an Early Adopter. Can you help me get started? Should I start with a fun quiz? I noticed the limit on the fun quiz is 99 questions. Instead should I be using a specific template that points to a url at my own website with the master spreasheet of questions?

In a verion 1.5 app, see the link to the .PDF in the Quiz Screen properties. It explains how to do this.

Ok, I am starting to get the hang of creating a quiz app with v1.5. Before I go further 1. Is there a way to remove the text test quiz question smart from behind my quiz questions? 2. My questions are a little too long and get cutoff. Is there a way to reduce the font size of the questions? Although the answers seem to adjust automatically to a smaller font, the questions don't. So I am hoping I can reduce the font size of the questions so the fit. 4. If I create more than one quiz menu row such as take a 10 question quiz and another row to take 25 question quiz, and so on...will all the questions I enter be accessed from the same master file on buzztouch? I am not sure if the questions are pulled down to the users device for offline use or the question bank is resides buzztouch and are accessed on a per use basis.

Glad you're getting the hang of it. 1) The 'Smart' text is on an image. You can edit this image in the project, or, provide your own image (a blank .png works well if you don't have an appropriate image) 2) The question box scrolls if the text is too long, have you tried to scoll it down? If you want to change it the project: See BT_screen_quiz in the Screens folder. Look at line 104, and line 105. You'll see the 25 and 55 values for small and large devices 3) You meant 2, you typed 4, funny. Each quiz screen has it's own question bank and it's own settings. If you are providing the qeustions from your server, change the dataURL however you want to pull the number of questions you want. This means you could create 1, 3, 5 quiz menu-items pointing to 1, 3, 5 different quizzes that all pull from the same dataURL. If you're not pulling questions from a dataURL, you'll need to manually type qeustions for each quiz.

So assuming I will not use my own url, is there a way to download my questions (so I could cut and past into other quizes in order to save time) from buzztouch? Or are my questions actually downloaded and stored on the device permenantly after the first use as part of the code?

Racer X, I need to cut and paste questions from a 1.4 quiz to a 1.5 quiz, so I just opened two browsers and pasted from one to the other. Not sure if that is what you want to do.

Thanks Miereter, did you have to paste each question, correct answer, and the three incorrect answers seperately back and forth for each question? What I am trying to do is give my users an option of taking a 10, 20, 50, or 100 questions quiz from the same pool of about 1,000 questions. If I create a seperate quiz for each of these choices then I will end up entering the same questions over and over again and they will be duplicated. So...my hope is that I can create the 1,000 questions once and then copy the quiz, but rename it and change the number of questions to 10, 20, 50 or 100. In this way I wont have fat finger the same questions more than once. When you did it where you able to select your entire back of questions, or did you have to do one questions at a time? Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Racer X. I had to paste questions and answeres one at a time and yes it took quite a while. I also wanted to present subsets sorted differently and had to paste them one by one. On another note, I was able to get rid of the test question graphic with embedded text using David's advice. I just opened the project in Xcode, then under the BT_images, QuizImages folder, I modified the quizBg_large.png and quizBg_Small.png files by cropping out the text part of the test question. Make sure to keep the size the same. I saved the updated images, rebuild my project, tested ok in simulator, then attached my ipod device and tested it. I now have only a note that says 'start quiz' without the test question in the way. Worked for me, but I assume that once I download a new copy of the source code, I will have to repeat these steps to overwrite the default test question .png files.

Thats ironic, I just figured it out myself this morning. I did have to do it again with each new download. I may be asking for advice on how to test on my own device as I am pretty new at this.
