Documents Loading in Simulator, Not in Device

Hello! I have a couple posts I'll make, but I'll start with the simple one. I've loaded a pdf and a png into my buzztouch project. The png is to be used as a header image, and I formatted it as such. The header image looks great in the simulator, but on my device it just appears as a ? mark. Similarily, my pdf opens perfectly in simulator, and leaves me with a blank(black) screen on device. Also, any word on integrating iads? I've gone over the available youtube videos, as well as the french guy's buzztouch specific video. The common element I can find with these videos, and not with my own project, is finding the projectviewcontroller.xib in project. I can not find this file. Everything I've seen thus far uses the viewcontroller to place an iad on individual screens. I imagine that the one other guy who figured out iads for buzztouch (please tell us how you did it!) implemented the iad framework, and then designated a place on every screen for iad. After this, he probably had to adjust all his affected Buzztouch pages downward in order to acommodate the space occupied by iad. But I'm not a coder, so I'm just pulling this out of my ass. :P Thanks again!

Hey Hoogler... Local files: This is strange behavior. The iOS simulator is pretty darn reliable and does a great job at duplicating what the device will do, especially when compared to the Eclipse / Android setup - urgh! If the sim is loading the files, the phone should too (as you now). What app name in your control panel? I ask this lots so I can test the exact app your working with and not a test app. Also, what screens are having trouble? a) App name (control panel name) b) Screen not showing .PDF c) Screen not showing .PNG d) What device are you using / what version of iOS (on the device)

iAds: .xib files, prounounced 'nib files' are files that Interface Builder creates. Inteface Builder is a visual design tool that works with Xcode. If you create an app from scratch and do some design work visually, like dragging and dropping components on a veiw, you'll be doing it with Interface Builder. After creating views in IB, you 'wire them up' to your source code. This is a common development approach whe building one app. The buzztouch source uses ZERO xib files which is why you won't see them in the project. All the screens, views, features are created dynamically with objective c code. This allows your control panel to 'explain' to your app how to do the layout, design, etc. Hope this makes sense. Search iAds on the forum, I think there's a few discussions about getting it to work. We have been working with a mobile advertising firm to integrate their ads in buzztouch apps. The idea is that you guys should be making some money when you publish cool content. It's unclear how this relationship will work (between us, our site visitors, and the ad provider). We are still working out the details about payments, (who gets them?, when do they arrive? How are they distributed?) and some other legal mumbo-jumbo. Our goal is to allow you to get some ads running without much trouble. But, we have to rely on the ad partner to help us do this.

Yo! a) findfish b) 9 SCanch - SCanch.pdf c) 9 Eklutna Lake Menu - anchoragepng.png d) IPod Touch 4.2 About iad, none of the forum posts actually give directions. Two people figured out how to do it; the first never provided details, and the second showed a film in french which showed that he COULD do it, not how. The french guys movie actually appeared to show a xib file, so maybe he was doing some serious altering? I may start up another forum post on it so we have some more recent discussion. Thanks for the help!

French guy, forget about that - you're right, no info. It's all aboug building a 'view' ( a container ) to hold the ads provided by iAds. The hard part, the part I just can't find time to explain, document, is helping folks understand the relationship between their app id (Apple's app id) and what to do with it. This type of details really does confuse most of our users. As soon as we start talking 'app id's' they get confused. Anyway, if you investigate setting up a unique App Id in your Apple Developer portal, I can show you VERY easily how to create a vew, or container to hold the iAds. The comments in my previous post about the ad partner is why I haven't done this for everyone yet. Were trying to balance all the competing interests. So, for you, I can show you because it will be related to your app only ;-) To do iAds, you'll need to figure out which screens to show the ads on, the sizes of the ads, and some other details you've probably already looked into. To start, look into this: http://www.raywenderlich.com/1371/how-to-integrate-iad-into-your-iphone-app

Awesome, this will be some good light reading when I get home from work. :P Were you able to get my app docs to work on your device? Also, I read in the forum elsewhere that you could change the English localization files so that you could change the text on certain buttons. I found this file, and attempted to change next=Next to next=Details, but it continued to appear as Next on my app. Am I missing a step? My potential audience may have bought an Iphone, but are still not that tech savvy, so I want to make it obvious (my address line = Click For Directions :P). Thanks!

I can't find an app called 'findfish' exactly. It looks like you created, then deleted (in feb.), a v1.4 app named Find Fish - am I missing something? The 'button text' is not controlled by the localization files (with the exception of a few, like Back). If you want to use a right-side button, you'll need to use the choices in the list, only two of the right size button choices use text - Next and Home. The other buttons in the right size nav bar are controlled by iOS. Localization files are tricky. The idea is that you could deploy the app in multiple langauges. In this case, you would create multiple localizaiton files, one for English, Spanish, Etc. However, it's not as easy as you may think and should probably not be attempted until you get a better grip on how iOS handles strings, text, and other 'words' from that file. In the meantime, if you want to show a right-size button for 'details' - use the details option in the drop down for right-size button type. I think iOS displayes a graphic for the details button and not text.

I'm actually using v1.5, and I may have given you the wrong project name. My project says findfish in Xcode, but in buzztouch its called Fish Finder. It should be one of those. Let me know if you can find it :)
