Quicklaunch URL

How do I make the app go directly to a mobile website without buttons. Is there a way to bypass the opening screen menu and set the app to just load a URL instead? So basically I just want the app to load a URL and nothing else.

iOS or Anroid? What buzztouch version... v1.4 or v1.5? It sounds like you're wanting to just create a shortcut icon to an existing URL. Do you really want an app for this? It could make sense that you do... just making sure I understand what you're trying to do.

That is exactly what I need. And to answer your first Q: IOS/ver.v1.5 unless it changed since 4 days ago. Thanks!

Hi again... easy with v1.5 a) Create a Custom URL screen in your list of screens. Modify it's URL to whatever address you want. b) Visit Core > Layout settings. c) Enter the nickname of the Custom URL screen you created in step a in the Home Screen box. All tabs should be empty. What you're doing is creating an app with no tabs and a home screen that is a URL. Should work great.

I wonder how this will fare with the Apple app store review - I'd be interested to know how this works out, please let us know! And good luck! I am trying to do the exact same thing with 1.4, for android only....don't want to hijack thread though David. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

@vonkent Load the control panel for your v1.5 app. On the left, click the Core Settings menu item. See my previous post. It's a super-simple approach. You'll get it. @Jaclyn: Tough to give advice without understanding your skill level. I'll try. Hollar if this beyond your understanding, or if you totally 'get it' ;-) v1.4 Android app's are all about the Act_Home and Act_ActivityBase files. You'll see these in your project after you download the source-code (expand the /src folder) . Assuming you can get that far, and successfully compile and run your app, adjusting it to do this isn't too tough. It's nerdie for sure, and for tech-enthusiasts only, but totally doable. Have a look at the Act_Home.java and Act_ActivityBase.java files. The Act_home.java file is the one that shows the main menu. The Act_ActivityBase.java file is the one that handles all the menu-taps. The idea is that immediately after the 'home' screen loads, you'll want to 'fire' or 'trigger' a menu tap without user interaction. This action will then load the a Custom URL screen you created in your online control panel. You'll see the home screen for a moment, then the URL will load. There are other more complex ways to totally hide the home screen but we'll first need to see if this makes any sense to you. If it does...cool...we'll move on. If it doesn't, you'll have a hard time doing this. Hope this helps.. may be time to get your feet wet in all the crazy interworkings... it's fun... poor a cup of coffee and give yourself an hour or so. I know you can figure this out ;-)

What you are saying makes NO sense because I have NO option anywhere that says Core Settings within the Buzztouch app menu on your website. In fact, there is no setting like this in x-code 4 as far as I can find. I created the app but it loads the menu screen with the one URL tab. This is not what I want, I want it to go to the URL only and no pre-menu or buttons. These are the menu items in Buzztouch control panel: Change this app's title Change this app's icon Change this app's image Change this app's info screen Manage this app's menus & screens ----(I already put the URL in here) Download the source-code for this app Permanently delete this app

to recap: I don't want a Home Screen Menu I just want it to go to the URL directly, does your system support this?

@vonkent: http://www.buzztouch.com/pages/contact.php - fill out form, ask nice to be added to the Early Adopter list. After they add you your account will then allow you to create either 1.4 apps or 1.5 apps with all the new features. 1.5 apps only work for iPhone, they are working on Android 1.5 still.

Ok, here's the deal. Your system does NOT display the option to build an app using the 1.5version. So I am stuck in 1.4version. I have now 3 accounts with you that I made to see if it would update me to the 1.5version, but nay, it always shows 1.4 and no banner for using the 1.5 ver beta. This is obviously a glitch, so I need your help in getting this corrected. If I have the 1.5v, I will know what you are talking about, but until then, I have no option for doing a direct push to the URL. Thanks for your time... and now you know that I ain't stupid or blind lol :)

David, thanks a million! Coffee brewing now...may holler for more help, but this makes total sense. Skill level so-so...getting code syntax and such right in a specific area is one kind of problem, but understanding the structure and how the various chunks of code all work together is another, and your info on that structure is priceless. Now I can focus on cracking into some new code territory...I better brew two pots of coffee...!

@vonkent - hey slow down, everyone here wants to help you. read the message on your My Account tab - clearly states that v1.5 is for early adopters only, gives instructions on how to become one [see my earlier post].

@vonkent Bummer that you're having difficulty participating with the other Early Adopters. I've checked your account (this one) and you are on the list. I'm unsure about the 'other accounts' you created and why they may not be on the list. Please send an email to info 'at' buzztouch.com with information about these other accounts. Include what email address was used, when you created them, etc. No sense in one person having three different logins so we'll remove them for you.

Hey danimal, I registered a new account and got the 1.5v automatically and then it disappeared, and yes I read the early adopters so you slow down holmes, it was an honest mistake to perceive that the beta was NOW available to all, considering that it came up that way on a new account and is mentioned in the very first video tutorial. It's easy to be black and white but things are not always so obvious so don't come off like a douche-bag telling people to slow down, esp. when they have jobs to do and are under the wire in a recessed economy. Thanks anyway, and please quit presuming that everyone is a needy jackass who wants immediate attention when most of us are likely having Beta-related glitchy issues and know it may take a day or two to get a response. Don't stop being helpful, just use tact :) PS: David Book: Thanx for your help and I want 2 of the accounts, one is personal, but the 3rd can be deleted... I won't post the email associated but will use the contact form for this so don't sweat it. Thanks again and very quick response is much appreciated. Now off to xcode to figure out why it doesn't build my files, yippee!

@vonkent: We are all busy, we all have stress to manage and we all have deadlines. The remarks made by the previous poster did not presume anything, let alone you being a jack-xxx. The fact is, your posts made no sense. When you say 'your system doesn't display options' that literally thousands of folks are using, then continue to try to figure out what's wrong by creating mutlipe account (which is never a good idea, it simply appeared that you were new to this process. Nothing more, nothing less. Please don't repost any aplogeze, comments, or other time-wasting info to this thread. If you find yourself feeling defensive again, kindly find another online service to help you accomplish your goals. Lastly, we do not allow multiple accounts, we'll kindly remove the two newest accounts you created unless you would prefer to keep one of these and remove your original account. No worries...we'll get it figured out.

Your instructions worked perfectly in the new 1.5, as u knew, and in the simulator, thx. I want to host the app on my website so it can be downloaded via a link but my searches came up empty. People are saying that xcode4 cannot export to itunes and if I make it accessible another way it will expire after a duration. Do you have any info on deployment? Or know anybody who could help? I am willing to pay to get this up and going. -thank you

Hi again. Sitting in short term parking at the aiport waiting for guests... gotta love the MiFi. I'm confused a bit, are you asking about hosting your own iOS app on your own site - isn't possible. Apple controls ALL iOS application distribution by forcing ALL iOS owners to downlaod apps from the App Store. You could try Cydia, the Jailbroken App Store but we have zero experience with it. We do know that lots and lots of folks use it, just not us? Hope this helps.

I noticed that version 1.5 doesn't package for Android. Is there a way to do a no-menu, URL launcher using version 1.4?

Not easily. Of course you could do this with some modifications but they would be extensive. Probably not worth the effort?
