Rating and Comment Box Discussion

Hey guys! I was wondering if any of you have incorporated a rating or comment section in your app? I have lots of locations in my app, and want users to be able to comment/rate each one. I'm pretty sure I can create an external webpage and link to it, but this would only work while the app is connected to the internet (which I expect many of my users to be out of cellphone range, which happens often here in AK). Is there a way to make an internal rating or comment system? Any discussion is welcomed!

Hmm.... this makes lots of sense and there are lots of posts about 'saving local data' or 'creating local data' The reality is, it takes a complex understanding of the devices local storage, file systems, database, etc. in order to pull this off. Because of the CMS nature of the project, we havn't gone down this road yet. We have talked about a form-builder type screen that would allow exactly this but we're nowhere near getting it done. It's one thing to build it, it's another thing to support it! Funny. So... I have a bit of a feel for your skill level and understand completely the ins-n-outs of all the different ways to do somethign like this. I would recommend doing a little homework with Safari's local-storage engine and see if you can create a simple, embedded HTML doc (add it to Xcode) to capture and save the data on the phone. You could use the right-nav button to load this screen from a map or whatever. If you can pull that off, the next step will be getting the device to send it somewhere so other users could benefit. In other words, what's the point of gathering this info if the users cannot see other entries - right? Even if you users are in the bush somewhere, they will evenentually need to be connected to get you the data. Another approach, albeit a bit cheezy (but effective) is something another user is doing. a) Create a details or notes, or tips button in top-right nav bar. b) Point this button to an Email Us screen. For this screen, enter a pre-filled subject line like: tips for this cool fishing hole' or whatever. Do this for each location. enter an email address like 'tips a fish finder dot com' c) When a user fills out the tip, the phone will save it until they are connected again then it will send it. d) You manually manage these leads, tips, feedbacks and show them in the app on another screen.
