v1.5 Quizzes Live at Saturday

Hi gang (early adopters).. The long awaited, super-improved, and very popular quiz screens will be live this Saturday, 03/19/2012 at midnight PST. Lots of folks have been asking, we've been listening. New quiz features include: a) Background audio (optional) b) Customizable 'reward points' (how many points to earn a reward) c) Set any screen as the 'Finish Screen' d) Set any screen as the 'Reward Screen' (if enough points are earned). Think coupon, bonus content, special offer, etc. e) Quiz Images. Instead of text-based questions, images can be used. For 'Identify this thing' type quizzes f) Improved scroeboard (optional) e) Share quiz results via Email, SMS, Facebook and Twitter (customizable pre-canned message - link to your app in market?) f) Remote dataURL to dynamically load questions / images / answers from your site (this is an awesome improvement) g) Customizable colors, sound effects (wrong anwsers, correct answers) h) Show timer, adjust tempo, transitions, etc. Stuper stoked.

Is there a limit to the number of questions in the quiz?

There is not a built in limit. If you're pulling from a datasource it may not make sense to pull in, um, 1000 questions or something? We've tested with a few hundred and no problems. A few thousand...just seems heavy for mobile? The devices pulls in a text file (JSON formatted) of question, answers, and image 'pointers' if used. Images may be named (in the project) or URL's. So... device pulls in text file. Next, the 'number of questions' property and other things (question delay, randomize questions, etc) are analyzed and the quiz starts. This just means you can have (and should have) a larger question pool than the quizzes length so it's not the same each time ;-)

Is there the option to put your name on a leader board at the end? It would make such a difference :)

Hi in Manchester: Yes, adding your Scoreboard name is part of the new quizz screens.

Great cheers - really appreciate everything you're doing! But a couple of bugs.. I have a tabbed menu at the bottom so the 4th answer option is hidden. I've tried the hide the tab bar option but that doesn't hide it. Also, when I enter my name for the scoreboard then press show scoreboard it just goes back to the beginning start quiz screen. Hopefully they will be easy enough to fix? Roy

I've got the same hidden 4th answer issue here. (Tabbed menu and tried hiding it.) I did not experience the second issue Roy mentioned with the scoreboard. That all worked fine for me. Additionally thought and/or bug... Once finished with the quiz, you have the option of quitting or continuing. Is there a real need for both of those functions? In either case, I have the continue (finished) option loading another tab. When you select continue, it takes you to the other screen as is should, but the tab doesn't change its selection to coincide. I'm sure that wasn't your intention with that function, but... Thanks for the update David!

If we wanted to use a preset-up database to pull the questions from what format does the database need to be set up in?

First... lets make sure were talking about the same things here. A quiz screen SHOULD NOT be the home-screen of any tab if you're using a tabbed layout. The fourth choice will not show if you do this. The 'hide tab bar' option does not apply to tab home screens, it only applies when your transitioning to the next screen. Hope this makes sense. Don't use quizzes as home screens - won't work. @phaques: There are quite a number of option available in a quiz. It's a marriage between some new stuff and some old stuff that thounsads of apps already use. 'quiting' and 'continuing' are different. Quiting and Retry are the only two options that will always show. Continue only shows if you have setup a 'finish screen' If you setup a reward screen, 'continue' wont show and 'show reward' will show. Does the same thing, just leads to a different screen if you want to setup a reward. So, continue is like 'ok, I'm done, take me to next screen' and 'quit' takes you back to previous menu. We need quit in the prompt because when the prompt is showing the 'back' button (top left) isn't active. Hope this makes sense. @maune12: Yes, this is possible, I'm working on the PDF as we speak. It shows how to do this. Look for a link to it on the quiz configuration screen. Maybe done with the PDF by morning?

Good to know about not using it as a home screen. That certainly makes a difference. If you have set up a finish screen and want to remove it, how do you go about doing so. I've deleted the screen name from the text field in the configuration and saved, but the app still shows the continue button. And now for a bug I've run into... When rotating to landscape mode on an iOS device in the quiz screen, you are presented with quizRotateMessage on screen. When you rotate back to landscape all is normal.
