Twitter Dev

Is there anyone that can help me with the Twitter API? I am creating a buzztouch app with loads of info for users, but I would love to include a screen that displays the tweets of lists that I have created. It's not a place for users to post their own tweets, just a reader. The user would first see a screen of the possible lists to read, then display the chosen list. It would be so simple if it were a simple URL of that page but it's not. Id like it to display similar to twitters mobil app for lists; the tweet'ers aviator, tweet, and timeline. Anyone have this expertise?

I havnt got much of a clue with most of the engineering in these Apps but would a Menu-list then a Twitter RSS feed be a simple fix?

Yea, I thought of that also, but rss is not the look that I am looking for, plus it doesn't include avatar, and it really limits the number of tweets (I think 20) It just seems like it should be so easy to accomplish. But Ive searched high and low and no one seems to have the answer. Thanks

'Display the tweets of lists that I've created' - not sure what you mean here (Im not a huge twitter fan). Are you looking to display all the tweets from a selected list of users? This does seem easy. Confirm this and I'll see how it could work. Seems easy?

So; In twitter, you can create what they call a List. It's a group. So if I am following 1000 people, I can put family members in one list, people I work with in another. I have created a number of lists within my twitter account. I'd like to have a menu list, of these lists; then when the user chooses an item in the menu, they are now viewing the tweets of the people that I assigned to that list. Twitters mobil app even has a specific tab to view lists. It's a great tool and I believe that the way I intend on using it will be a tremendous bonus for the users of my app. Basically, I just want a piece of what Twitters app ( as well as pretty much all the twitter third party apps) does in regards to lists. Here is one of my lists: Twitter.com/IrishAisle/ny-ny-wedding-vendors Any thoughts?

Yes, this does make sense. I can think of two issues. First, the issue of actually developing the backend script to communicate with the Twitter API. Second, the limitation the Twitter API puts on almost all accounts (just reviewed their guidelines). To get this to work, you or a developer would do something like a) Create a .PHP script on your server to make Twitter Requests b) Create a menu list in our buzztouch app and point the dataURL (advanced settigns) to the script you setup on your website. c) The phone would make the request to your site, which interacts with Twitter. d) Your script outputs JSON formatted data to drive the menu on the phone (the items are dynamic, pulled from Twitter) This is a very simple design / development problem for a skilled .PHP developer with experience working with API's. It's impossible for somebody that doesn't understand .PHP and the relationship between webservers, API's and phones.

David, I think I will post this a job on elance. Could you just tell me how I should word it so that they understand that I am creating the app (with buzztouch) and that I just need the script written. Im not quite sure how to word the job request. Thanks

Yeah, makes sense. Lots of this going on with BT. Elance, Vworker, Craigs list, etc. I'm not sure of the best way to word this kind of thing. Most of these contractor type relationships are best started by feeling out who you're going to be paying for what? Maybe something vague like: 'I have a mobile application that needs to pull data from my website. This data needs to come from the Twitter API, then formatted in a specifc JSON format for output to the device' Again, not sure how to ask? Wish I had time to help with this, sigh.... Can if you wait a few weeks? I'm working out a dynamic map app (location finder thing) for another visitor so we can get a video made about the process. I'd be happy to do the same with this request but it's at least a few weeks away?

David, Well, maybe I'll take you up on that. I can wait a few weeks no problem. I am going to email you some more details on this that I think will paint a better picture. Thanks

Good plan. I'll look for an email. No hurry on sending it, probably archive it until the next break anyway ;-)
