Maps not working...Again

Haven't changed anything. I'm getting this error: Maps not configured properly. See: showLocationMap() method in src/Act_ActivityBase.java I've read the other posts on the issue and I've checked everything. All the files described in the Read Me have been changed. Downloaded all the ApI's. I can't see where the problem is. Funny thing is everything works, I only get the message for a flash in the simulator or after I go back to the menu on my phone. I've got Warnings for 100 of 190 items. Bruce

You're amazing. Given the learning curve you're dealing with, I would have quit weeks ago! The Maps not Configured Properly message comes from Act_ActivityBase.java (possible typo in name, file not in front of me). It is a method that runs when you tap a link to open a map. Scroll down in that file (in the /src directory) and see the notes. You'll see where the showLocationMap() method has been commented out on purpose untill somebody like you decides - 'hey, I want to use maps' If you do, you'll need to oncomment this. Summary: To use maps, you need to make a few adjustments to the downloaded source-code. One in the Android manifest, and one in the Act_ActivityBase.java file. I think this is info is in the README.txt?

That's the thing. I did all the things described in the Read Me. At this point I can do all that in my sleep. I don't know if this is anything or not but when I was having trouble before I ran the keytool -list -alias androiddebugkey -keystore .android/debug.keystore -storepass android -keypass android androiddebugkey and I got a different MD5 fingerprint. Could that be the problem? If so I would need to get 2 new keys again, correct? Bruce

I'm convinced that's the problem. How do I get the release key? I've got the new debug key.

You must have seen this http://code.google.com/android/add-ons/google-apis/mapkey.html (right?) The Map keys are not going to fix any errors in Eclipse. The only thing the map keys will affect is whether or not the actual map tiles load on the phone. In other words, you'll be able to compile and load a map screen with anything entered as map keys. The keys are used when the phone asks for the actual tiles. Idea: Send a zipped up version of exactly what you have and I'll test here to see what may be wrong. If it works here, we'll now that nothing in the source is hosed? Dig around, I'll be back tonight to see what new frustration you find between now and then.

You're right it made no difference. I started from scratch again, did everything in the read me and it looks like things are worse. Who do I send the zip file to?

zip up your project, send it to info 'at' buzztouch.com We'll review it and return what we thinks best. We hope to use this opportunity to create a .PDF step-by-step process for Eclipse. Something we've been needing to do for months!

None of the email programs-accounts will let me send you the file. I tried 4 accounts. I think it's because there's an executable file in the .zip. That's what google said anyway. I'm batting 1000 here.

Funny, no worries. Lets do this: I can download the app from this end, MAKE IT WORK on my machine, then report what I did. I'm in after a crazy busy (teenager filled) night. May take a few hours... check this post, or your email in a few...

You don't have to do it tonight. I just got home (10:15) myself and won't get to anything til tomorrow afternoon.

I posted a video (Google maps video), see if that helps. I'll try to get another one made to show you how to get API keys. But, ECLIPSE ERRORS have nothing to do with the keys themselves. See the video ;-)

Nice video! Free publicity! I owe you big time. I must have something wrong with my Eclipse because as soon as I bring the project in I get Problems with a Description: Warnings (100 of 190). When you brought the project in you didn't get any errors. I performed all the changes to the various files in the project just like the video showed and I'm still getting the Maps not configured properly. See: showLocationMap() method in src/Act_ActivityBase.java on the simulator. I got both keys, painful but I got 'em. Everything is in it's right place. I've been extremely careful and tenacious about not changing anything else. Now I don't feel so bad because I know everything I did was correct (at least with the Buzztouch files). I'm going to install Eclipse on another machine and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. Thank you so much for your help. Bruce

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this but I went out of town and other duties called. I'm still getting errors in Eclipse on both computers. I'll just have to muddle through with all the components and installs. There are no errors in the simulator or on my Droid X though. So it appears that the app is working fine. I've never had so many problems before with any piece of software. I appreciate the help. Bruce

Welcome back, no sorries needed, everyones busy ;-) Yeah, Ecplise, total joke. Who knows, maybe we'll end up creating our own Java front end (Eclipse is Java based) to compile Android Apps so folks dont' have to struggle with Eclipse anymore. As ambitious as that may sound, it's not out of the question. We spend so much time working out solutions for Ecplise, maybe just bypass it! Glad to see your post.
