Advanced Forum Search Tip

Right now, the search box for the forums only searches within the Topic title. If you'd like to be able to search by username (for example to find topics you've participated in) or throughout the full text of the discussion, just add the following into a google search box, along with your query: site:buzztouch.com/forum/ So, if you want to see every post containing the phrase custom HTML do a google search for site:buzztouch.com/forum/ custom HTML and you should see proper results. Make sure and leave a space between the site:buzztouch.com/forum/ and the query terms.

Search Ninja! Good tip. We've been working on adding 'your' forum subscriptions to your control panel so you can see only the thread you're participating in. An entirely new and updated forum makes sense too but it's a low priority at this point.

I just setup a phpBB for a site I'm developing. Fairly quick and easy. Its a great open source forum software that's pretty full featured. Do you have a Fantastico control panel from your server host, or are you all self hosted? Although I think the GetSatisfaction system i recommended might be better suited for this type of scenario. Kind of a cross between a forum and a help desk, very user friendly. Let them worry about forum coding... You should focus on buzztouch coding! Maybe a forum App might be more App-ropos. ;)

Oh man, hate to see this forum change. I love the simplistic and clean look from it, compared to other CMS type forums. Great tip for new users R2 :) I hadn't noticed that it only searched titles, although, would it be hard to simply add forum posts to the search query here rather? David.

I think the more people that are attracted to buzztouch, the more congested the forum is going to get, and you'll have an onslaught of people asking the same basic questions over and over and over. A higher functioning forum would allow for topics to be categorized (bugs, feature requests, how-do-I's, and such). At the moment we're at the mercy of the ability of the original poster to put important keywords in the Topic Title. Also, the only way to monitor a topic is via the subscribe (by email) method. I have no idea how David does it.

Um, my secret is an iPhone / iPad app. When a new post arrives, it yells at me. I don't respond with an iOS gadget, just monitor the topics. I created a simple RSS to push provide the posts, it's a v1.5 app so I see the title, a bit of the description, and the avatar. Tapping the story title loads the screen. In fact, this reminds me... since we have so many 'how do I use images with RSS' questions, I should probably use the feed as the example. I'll get to that later.
