Question about basic Eclipse setup

Hi, I am in no way a developer and I have been working at this for the past 7 hours without any success! I am sure that it is suppose to be really easy, but I can't get it to work... I downloaded Java (JDK), the Eclipse Classic Program, the Adroid SDK Starter Package, and the ADT Plugin. I've got the Eclipse program coming up, the ADT thing pluged in, and Adroid SDK and AVD Manager working (I think)... I am not sure if I download a full / complete version of the SDK or just the starter package... I also downloaded a simple sample ap from Buzztouch and saved it to my desktop. The file was zipped so I unzipped it - and from there I am not quite sure where to go: When I go into Eclipse I try to follow the directions shown in the Video tutorial New Project>New Android Project. Then I give it a name, and go looking for my file: which I am can not seem to find. I can find the folder which now contains the following: Bin (Folder), Gen (Folder), Jar (Folder), Res (Folder), Src (Folder), .classpath, .project, Android Manifest, default.properties, License, and Readme - but I am not sure what I am suppose to select By clicking on the folder I am able to move on to the next Build target step. The Android 1.6 option is automatically checked, but the ReadMe file says Google API's version 1.6 checkbox should be present and checked and it is not. If I click Finish and proceed and try to run the application I just get a pop up that says basically Your Project Contains Errors: Please fix them before running the application. Any help or ideas on what I am doing wrong would be humbly, and gratefully accepted!

Eclipse can be a demoralising killer my good man. Did you follow these steps for Google APi and what not?: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=65EA4B7F316E08F&status=&searchInput=Google%20API&sortColumn=FT.dateStampUTC&sortUpDown=DESC¤tPage=1&doViews=1

Hi in Colorado: The pain your're feeling is one of our biggest motivators. I've been developing enterprise-grade softare for many years, I'm proficient in literally dozens of technology 'languages' and consider myself as good at this stuff as any other seasoned vet. When I sat down to create a very simple Hello World app, a long long time ago, I poored a cup of coffee and checked the clock, figured an hour or so otta be enough. What a joke! It took me more than an entire day to get my machine running the simplest, Google provided project you could imagine. I read and read and read, configured, uploaded, downloaded, got frustrated and gave up until some other day. It's that exact experience that motivated us to create this site. We are trying to make a horribly complex process easier. We've come along way but still have a long way to go. I can say that thousands and thousands of folks are happily running buzztouch apps (have you seen the map?) but lots and lots of them have struggled like you. Whatever you're issue is, I can assure you it's an easy fix, just a matter of getting your machine setup. We're happy to help if we can, post post post, we got' your back ;-)

Ok, So I think I made it over that hurdle... I had to go into Eclipse open the Window / Android SDK and AVD Manager, go to Available Packages, unclick the checkbox for Display Updates Only, Click the checkbox above for Third Party Ad On's and select ONLY the checkbox for the Google APIs by Google Inc., Android API4, Revision #.... and install just that one file on its own. Previously when I tried to install I was attempting to install everything and it just didn't work...makes no sense to me, but in the end I was able to move past that part where I was originally stuck. I click Finish The readme file says: YOUR APPLICATION SHOULD COMPILE AND INSTALL ON AN ANDROID SIMULATOR OR DEVICE Does this mean it should run when I click the green arrow button? Because it does not. Instead I get another error message that says I have about 100 errors that need to be fixed. The readme file goes on to talk about the Facebook and Maps APIs. Are my errors being caused because these values have not yet been set? Following the Readme file's instructions for setting the Maps APIs I have gotten as far as seeing where the values need to be entered, and I have attempted to come up with the values themselves - but I am not sure if I have the right values, or the right format for them. For the debug value I have (minus the quotes): $ keytool -list -alias androiddebugkey \-keystore .keystore \-storepass android -keypass android And for the release value I have a long letter / number combination generated by google for me (minus the quotes and the middle of the value): 03fe...........................3A7wT9GA The release value and the debug value seem to be formatted very differently and I am not sure if I am missing something that maybe is suppose to in close my release value? Please help, I feel like I have come so far, and yet still have so far to go!
