Random Idea of the Day: The Pre App Store

David, I think you mentioned something about the future of Buzztouch allowing us to duplicate, exchange, and co-develop apps. Something along the lines of that, where we could easily give another buzztouch member access to an app or such. I was dwelling on this idea and thought it would be great if apps could be created as templates to give people a head start. One of the things I like about buzztouch is its flexibility, that I don't need to have a cookie cutter app that looks and behaves like everyone else. But it might be good for someone to get a jumpstart on a precreated app, especially for someone totally new to buzztouch. Taking this a step further, it would allow for a potential monetization of your service, where you could offer some free basic templates, and sell premium templates. And beyond that, it could be come a developer to developer market, so if I created a template I could sell it through the buzztouch template store, and you could be gathering a commission on developer to developer transactions. Perhaps you've already considered this and it may be in the plan. Just thought I'd throw it out there just in case. I find the structure of this thing (buzztouch and a newly blossoming buzztouch developer community) has a potential similar to what's been created around RapidWeaver (my favorite web development platform). It's a similar tool (local app based, not a web service) for creating websites, and has a very strong community of developers and 3rd party content creators that make site templates and plug-ins that extend the ability of the software. RapidWeaver's company, Realmac Software, has provided a community forum for the exchange of ideas, a system to centrally log available plug-ins, themes, add-ons, however they are not directly involved in the transactions. I think had they planned that more from the start, it would have been a nice secondary income stream. Currently their only stream is via selling the app itself. 3rd Party templates, plugins and add-ons are all transacted outside and independent of Realmac Software. In your case, you'd have the ability to control the flow of goods, right from the start, and that's because your backend source is entirely on your system, unlike a RW theme template, which is just a bunch of CSS and HTML and images, packaged properly that can go user to user. So, a Pre App Store for almost-ready-to-go apps for developers? I think it would do nothing but encourage more development, bring in more users, and grow your product. Not sure why I keep thinking about monetization of this great free service, but I'm just an entrepreneur and do tend to think about such things, especially when a really cool, novel idea like buzztouch passes across my circuits. And when my circuits start warming up it always helps me adapt ideas to my own business. And who knows, if you do create the Pre App Store I might start a new side business. RSD2 - love it. We hadn't thought of the 'canned template' approach and like this. We have done lots of thinking and planning around the 'Plug-in' approach. Havn't quite figured out the details but do think it's a good start. Supporting folks that help us is a HUGE thing for us. Allowing you and others to sell your Plug-ins (and templates?) is super appealing. My partner Steve is a pro at these kinds of biz' dev things, maybe we should get the ball rolling on this sooner rather than later? The ultimate value (in my opinion) will come when both iOS and Android platforms 'just work' and we're moving closer to that. Stoked that you think like an entrepreneur ;-)
