v1.5 menu icons

The new menu icons go a long way to make an app look better, and make for a more intuitive and eye-friendly interface. I just hope that more icons are added soon. I've found myself looking for what I think would be popular icons many other people might want. I do realize there is a method to use our own icons by adding them to the files in the source code of the app, but the built in icons are just too darned easy. (We're getting spoiled, here.) What might be truly ideal is an uploader, so that we can upload a file, crop it, and it's stored online. Wait... does the Icon URL field do something like this? That is, does it grab an icon from a URL, then store it in the app file? Does this file have to remain at the URL for future use by the app, or is this just a one-time thing in the back-end, like a direct upload? Anyway, if you need some ideas on what generic icons might be useful, perhaps others can share their requests in this thread. Here are some ideas off the top of my head: - ? Question Mark (perfect for links to a FAQ page!) - Boat - Fish - Building (other than the house perhaps like a hotel or office building) - ... (P.S. There are several duplications in the icon selections, didn't know if it was pointed out yet or not.)

Duplicate icons in the included choices, duh, this is not intentional, we'll get them removed. The icon URL doesn't 'have to' exist permanently but should. The phone will download the file from the URL and store it in the cache but the user could empty the cache so it should exist at the URL long-term. I like the idea of the upload or even our backend 'fetching' it from a provided URL to then embedd in the download. Hmm... ideas ideas. I guess more than anything we figured dragging them into the project would be popular. As it's turning out, not so much, folks do want to use the online tool so we should begin gathering more options or allow the upload / embed logic.

Having the freedom to put custom icons in our source code is great, don't get me wrong. I'm actually leaning towards designing my own set of custom icons so I can do this very thing. Having a a standard icon set, then a Plus set with greater selection, multicolor, etc. might be a nice monetization idea for the future of buzztouch. Heck, if you had a cool set of icons we could download for $10, it would be a nice way for users to donate and improve our apps at the same time. Now I'm going to go think twice about why I'm telling you to charge me for something that is so very ridiculously free so far... ;)

I took a look through the icons again as I see them onscreen. I found the following duplicates that appear visually identical to me, but have different filenames: news.png = ekg.png map_standard.png = signpost.png plane.png = airplane.png map.png = map_hybrid.png pinetree.png = map_terrain.png Hopefully that will help keep you from playing theMemory picture matching game I just enjoyed myself. Also, I notice that the icons are 24x24 png files. Is this what I should stick to if designing my own, or are larger files acceptable? How about jpgs?

Larger ones are fine, depens on the sitch. The menu-rows need to be taller and the buttons larger if you're using bigger files. iPad icons look great at 72 / 72 Memory game, good work - I'll remove these. Not sure why there are dup. images with same names - funny.

more icon ideas: - i for info. The circle-i icon is available as a right button in the nav bar, but not as an icon for a menu. - ! exclamation point, usually meaning important!
