During development, set the Code Signing Identity to Do Not Codesign. This will always work. You only need to set a Valid Provisioning Profile when you prepare to send your app to the App Store for approval.

i'm ready to send the app to the app store, but i'm still getting this problem. do i need to set a codesign for a distributor? i have that certificate but it's not showing up as an option, only my developer cert is appearing.

There are two places you need to set the Code Signing Identity. When you have the project name highlighted, then open the Build Settings... look at the Drop-down for Release or Debug. Set this to Release, then set the Code Signing Identity to the appropriate provisioning profile. Then.. repeat these steps for the Target. Instead of highlighting the project name, highlight the Target (expand the your targets folder) and set the Code Signing Identity for Release here to. So.. two steps.. a) Set Code Signing for Release for Project b) Set Code Signing for Release for Target You could also Google the subject for more help, confuses lots of folks ;-)
