Video

I'm linking to an Mp4 resident on a server... i.e. http://www.trythepeaks.com/video/SunDay.mp4 The video is valid. I've added this as a streaming video. If I choose this from the menu (on my iPhone; it's got developer credentials) the video begins to play, but the menu never disappears from the screen, i.e. it never switches over to the video player. Any thoughts?

Great catch! We heard about an issue a few weeks ago that was similar but ended up being related to the video codec used to compress the video. It ended with a valid extension but didn't play. The app owner recompressed the video and it worked. Your case is different - you found a legitimate problem with the source-code. Thanks tons for this, many folks will benefit. We have updated the project source-code and tested it on the iOS simulator and an iOS device - your video plays as expected (nice flick!). This means you will need to re-download your source-code project and compile it again. TRASH the old project so Xcode doesn't get confused. Re-post if you still have trouble. Thanks again.

I was having the same problem and hope David's fix takes care of it. It should, these dudes are amazing! I have lots of other code I changed and would rather not re-download the project unless this fixes it. So, Jimmc, can you please re-post if your video now plays. In other words, did it fix it? Thanks.

Hi David, I think the app linked to my account is ready to go, but still getting some of these video issues, i.e. hit the menu, a few seconds go by, it stays on the menu, but the video is actually playing (but never appears.) Any thoughts? I think this kind of inconsitency might kill it in the approval process...

Yeah, this is not good, something strange is going on, lots of these in the wild without any trouble? Can't be that tough to figure out. What device are you testing on, I'll do the same on this end. iPhone, iPad, iPod? What iOS version. 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 etc.

I'm on an iPhone 3. Version 4.1 (8B117). I'll get my son to try it on his iPhone 4. I'll also give it a go on my iPad.

Cool, more info later. I have all the gadgets too, just wanted to see which one was failing - it matters sometimes.

Hi again... More changes, get the latest source. Also, you'll see a bubble on the map in this apps control panel, the one in Monterey. This is my iPhone - works great. The trouble is mysterious, and again, I'm glad were working this out. Sucks but necessary I guess. If you're interested in code? The issues are related to the way the video player transitions. You'll notice a change in the transition now, instead of sliding in a new player, it dissolves in. Not sure if this is prettier or not but the slide effect seems to have been freaking out the player and when it would try to start, or not start. About half of your videos worked before this slight adjustment. It may be that we can't use the slide in / out effect and still support ALL ios devices. Bummer, unless you like the fade? Give it a go, let us know.

Meaning it works or doesn't work? See the above post - I think I got it! Download / compile / test. I'm watching some kids at Kids Camp - cute.

Yippee... crazy eh' You can't imagine how many 'little' things are like this. We continually update / fix and move forward. When things settle down with a particular release (you are on v1.4) we get the next one going. v1.5 is coming along good and has WAY more fun features ;-) Gotta run, thanks tons for helping us.

Definitely something wrong with the location feature.... it keeps referring to the location of my iPhone, not the location I specified. And if you run it in the simulator, it comes up with One Infinite Loop drive! I've got a menu in there now that calls out HTML to a Google iFrame so it quits the app and loads maps; that works. But might be something to explore...

Not sure I know what you mean with the location feature. It works on two devices here. Here's what it should do (on a device, simulator does weird stuff with Maps) a) Map screen loads b) Pin drops on the devices location and on the location entered on the control panel. Tapping the red-pin on the entered location should produce some options. Either a directions link or a details link if a details URL was entered. If you don't see the red pin, maybe tap the different map options along the bottom?
